The Young Learner Academic Manager (YLAOM) provides guidance and support to all temporary Academic Managers working within the Young Learners Department. Working closely with the YLDOO and the wider YL Operations Team the YLAOM is to assist with the academic planning and operations management of the Young Learner centres running throughout the year within commutable distance to one of the BSC Colleges.

Main Responsibilities

Support the YL Director of Operations (YLDOO) and YLOM

  • Support the YLDOO with the Implementation of the YL Academic strategic plan
  • Provide academic leadership to all temporary YL team members
  • Lead person for Host School liaison and planning
  • Create and deliver Academic Team liaison and training year round
  • YL academic administrator

Recruitment and HR

  • Take the lead role in all YL academic staff recruitment through co-ordination of academic recruitment for spring and summer programmes as well as low season groups.
  • Following best practice for ‘Safer Recruitment’
  • Support the Centre Management with disciplinary procedures – advising the YLOM and YLDO of any serious matters
  • Monitoring performance of the YL temporary team including appraisal system implementation management

Curriculum Management

  • Complete syllabus work on the Impact syllabus for the older YLs (includes schemes of work for all levels for entire summer season and CEFR level matching of syllabi)
  • Assist with revision of younger YLs curriculum (8-12 years), create schemes of work and teacher support materials
  • Help with roll out/training of summer centre academic staff for any new courses (including exam courses, future leaders)
  • Help with roll out of any year-round young learner courses, including training for existing teachers who specialise in teaching adults
  • Revise English Curriculum at City Football and help create curricula for new sports education centres

Support Adult Colleges Exams Manager

  • Assist with exam provision at Wycliffe (summer) and year round YL centres
  • Assist with admin of exam bookings for YLs (Cambridge/Language Cert/OTE) and deputise/cover for school invigilators and interlocutors

YL Administrator

  • Responding to requests for resource replenishment during course operations
  • Assisting with the payroll system and responding to pay queries
  • Overseeing delivery and monitoring of social media posts
  • Working irregular hours and travelling within the requirements of the role
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility for this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training

Centre Training

  • Coordinating Fidelo training for academic teams
  • Deliver training for the Young Learner syllabus
  • Supporting the operations team in the planning and delivery of centre management training

Safeguarding

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for and come into contact with
  • To adhere to the BSC Young Learners safeguarding policy, ensuring it is followed by centre teams at all times
  • To be the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience of multi-site summer school management
  • Minimum CELTA / Trinity / TESOL
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet required SLAs
  • Be approachable and a keen willingness to help both intern and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility to undertake new responsibilities and work in different ways to achieve our ultimate goal to be the best in the industry
  • Experience and interest in working with other cultures
  • Ability to take ownership, problem solve and make decisions
  • Ability to both lead and inspire temporary teams
  • Experience of summer/pop up centre management
