Job description
Utah Valley University is currently seeking a part-time an Academic Advisor I for the First Year Advising Center! Counsels and advises new, prospective, and transfer students in all aspects of university-wide academic programs, student development, and career planning. Manages a student caseload using predictive analytics and proactive outreach to improve retention. Duties include explaining policies, making referrals, maintaining records, interpreting test scores, addressing academic standards issues, coordinating academic issues with faculty and staff, and attending meetings as assigned. Advise students regarding mathematics placement and identify students in need of additional support or proactive intervention to enable math completion.
- Onboard and guide students through enrollment, registration, major selection, university processes, and campus resources. Assess placement scores and transfer credits within university guidelines. Counsel students in the development of meaningful educational plans, majors, course selection, co-curricular opportunities and relevant academic information.
- Manage a counseling caseload using predictive analytics, approved technology, and proactive outreach to improve retention. Maintain student advisement records.
- In coordination with departmental leadership, deliver academic advisement to students who need guidance on the best path for completion of their Quantitative Literacy (math GE) requirement. Monitor analytics that inform student success and provide intrusive advising and strategic outreach to aid in degree completion. Provide information and referrals about math support services to students to assist students in successful completion of QL. Support math advising training for other advisors on campus to ensure a consistent math advising strategy.
- Monitor and apply research findings in counseling, student development, assessment, and student success. Keep current on school and college curriculum, university processes, and campus resources. Achieves initial UVU advisor certification within one year of employment, and achieves continued UVU advisor certification status annually. Complete other duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree and two years of full-time professional experience related to the Summary of Duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to candidates with a degrees in mathematics or mathematics related fields to academic advising.
