Job Summary: SUNY Brockport invites applications for an Academic Advisor working with the Academic Success Center team. The academic advisor works with students to facilitate their retention and persistence to complete their degree requirements through one-on-one and group advising, coaching, mentoring and referrals to additional campus resources. They work as a team player in the ASC to advance student success initiatives in an environment of student centered data-informed decision making and prioritization. They accurately interpret transcripts, degree audits, academic program requirements, academic policies, and state and federal financial aid compliance to support student retention and persistence. They work with colleagues in the Academic Success Center (ASC), faculty, departmental academic advisors and department chairs to provide appropriate interventions to promote retention and persistence to graduation. This advisor has a focus on first year students, collaborating with academic departments, as well as supporting students on probation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Knowledge of higher education academic policy, program requirements, and advising which can be demonstrated through part-time or full-time work experience, education, or clearly articulated complimentary experiences.
- Ability to work effectively with students, public, college community and external constituencies, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bilingual in Spanish.
- Experience and proficiency working with Banner, DegreeWorks or another degree audit system.
- Experience working in academic advisement or a related area.
- Understanding and experience working with federal and state regulations for financial aid.
- Experience working with Starfish or similar early alert and communication software tool.
Work Schedule: 37.5/week
Salary and Benefits: $50,148 -$52,655
