At Shemmassian Academic Consulting, we are looking to add an Academic Writing Advisor to work with our fantastic team of Academic Consultants to help students get into their dream schools through academic and extracurricular planning, as well as comprehensive application support.
Summary of Position
The Academic Writing Advisor will be responsible for overseeing the editing and proofreading of client materials. The candidate should have excellent written and proofreading skills, be flexible and open to change and possess thorough attention to detail. In this position, you will work as a member of a “pod” of expert advisors and editors to assist clients with improving their educational application materials. Within your “pod” you will work with a Primary Consultant who will oversee and assign clients and other editors who you may call upon for ideas, suggestions, and camaraderie as your “pod” helps your clients prepare the best possible applications for their chosen educational pursuits. This position is considered a full-time position and requires a high level of self-motivation, commitment, and dedication to a very dynamic work environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review, edit, and proofread assignments received from Primary Consultant;
- Effectively communicate edits to students, other assigned pod Academic Writing Advisors, and the Primary Consultant to ensure continuity of themes and application concepts developed during student’s work with the Primary Consultant;
- Work closely with clients to engage in an open dialogue about expected changes and draft updates as necessary;
- Ability to apply strong written and oral communication skills, proofreading, and critical thinking skills;
- Manage detail-oriented, highly time-sensitive workflows with excellent follow-up skills and the ability to multitask between assignments;
- Develop and maintain warm relationships with clients, managers, and team members; and
- Perform all other tasks as reasonably necessary to ensure high-quality admissions and educational advising advice for any assigned student.

- Ability to develop and maintain a strong feeling of interpersonal warmth with all clients and co-workers;
- Critical thinker with strong problem-solving and research proficiencies;
- Knowledge and comfort applying APA, CMS, MLA, Harvard, Oxford, and other style conventions as required;
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines on a flexible schedule;
- Creative mind with superb written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to simplify complex information into a user-friendly format;
- Ability, comfort, and willingness to work in a 100% remote work environment;
- Willingness to jump into any project and come to the aid of their co-workers without first having to consider whether providing such assistance is “within their job description”;
- Openness to learning new skills with an eye toward continual professional development.
Reporting
- Position reports to the Senior Academic Writing Advisor and Primary Academic Consultant
Position Type
- Full-time position;
- You are expected to have the capacity to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, each week;
- Ability to work overtime is expected as necessary to complete all assigned job tasks.
- Position is considered “non-exempt” under state and federal law pertaining to overtime, meal, and rest periods.
