Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in guidance and counseling or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of one year experience in academic counseling or advising.
- Knowledge of counseling techniques.
- Demonstrated skill in working with students to achieve educational goals, retention, and student success.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic colleagues in development of academic advising protocol and programs to retain students and move them through their major course of study.
- Strong technical and database skills with a willingness to engage in training and implementation of new advising technology.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Work hours generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., evening or weekend hours required periodically.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Oakland University’s programs and policies.
- Emphasis on working with students having academic difficulties.
- Experience with an integrated student record system.
- Ability to use technological platforms to enhance advising and retention.

Position Details
Position Purpose
Provide academic advising to current and prospective undergraduate students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree program in the School of Business Administration. Assist in the design, development, and implementation of student recruitment, admission, retention and advising activities, including the use of technical solutions. Also advise students having academic difficulty. Develop and implement a plan to assist students in progressing towards degree completion. Design, implement, and coordinate programs including a student persistence strategy and initiatives for increasing persistence and success of students. Maintain student records and monitor student academic progress. Coordinate, prepare, and maintain transfer credit evaluations. Perform necessary administrative functions related to students’ academic progress (overrides, permission to participate in commencement, preliminary registration, change of major, etc.). Participate in orientation sessions, group advising sessions, and Admissions recruiting events.
