Job summary

Whilst DCMS is advertising this vacancy, the successful candidate(s) may ultimately be appointed to the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

Thank you for your interest in this role. This is an incredibly exciting time to work in Data Policy.

Data is the lifeblood of a modern, digital economy and society. Excellent data policy has the power to underpin the protection of privacy, improve skills for the modern age, boost productivity and turbo-charge scientific progress. The UK produced a National Data Strategy to ensure we are sufficiently ambitious on data as an issue that is part of every aspect of digital policy-making.

The DPD is leading work across Whitehall on the UK's data protection and data rights regime. The UK is a world leader in technological innovation and high data protection standards, which enable businesses to grow and thrive in an environment that protects privacy and builds public confidence. The DPD ensures that the UK’s data protection law remains fit for purpose and, having consulted on legislative changes in late 2021, the team are now helping to progress the Data Protection and Digital Information (DPDI) Bill through Parliament after its introduction in July 2022.

DPD is a friendly and dynamic team, with a strong commitment to supporting each other to deliver. We put DSIT values at the heart of how we work - ensuring an inclusive team culture that respects everyone and celebrates diversity.
