An opportunity has arisen to join a busy software deployment & support team for the Software Implementation Team (SIT). It will be home based after the Initial training has taken place at the Retail Companies Office - We estimate this to take 2 days - 2 weeks max to learn the systems and processes used.
Experience working in a busy support environment is essential - Minimum 5 years ideally longer.
This is very technical position - demonstrating experience of working from command line prompts would be very useful when applying.
Pay rate - we have two options available
- PAYE: £155 per day (including statutory holiday pay)
- LTD: £220 per day (no holidays accrued)
- Inside IR35
Shifts standard Mon-Fri day initially although patterns have been adapted over time to fit the teams home life requirements, but this would be further down the line for a new starter.
Purpose of Job Role
The job entails Scripting / Releasing / Deploying and providing support to Store Infrastructure and third-party suppliers. This includes Windows Servers, Tills and Self Checkouts and all peripherals.
Background
The Retail Implementation Team is accountable for introducing new, or changes to, the existing IT, voice and data solutions across the Stores, as necessitated by Business requirements. This activity spans the territories of the UK, Ireland, Channel Islands, France and Franchise Partners.
The Team within Retail Implementation is responsible for the remote support of hardware and remote deployment of firmware, software and patches into Stores, this could include shift and overnight work too.
Software is received and this is then packaged, scheduled, and deployed to various devices in the Stores estate via SCCM. Then monitored and reported on to the stakeholders.
Recent works within the Area include:
- the upgrade of the Local Area and Wireless infrastructure across all Stores
- upgrading of printing capability across our Stores
- implementing network and hardware to support a new National Distribution Centre
- delivering a network and hardware solution to allow our BP Franchise to utilise stock management systems
- delivery of additional hardware into the Store Estate to support Peak trading
- delivering an increase of Self Check Out tilling into the Store Estate
- delivery of hardware to support new till scanning solution into our Store Estate

Calls will be raised by Stores, and these will be assigned to the team to be dealt with and updated in the Incident Management Database.
Microsoft Teams is used for the Communication with Third Parties and engineers also for Incident / Client meetings.
The role requires strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at a variety of levels, build lasting relationships within itself, and with a varied Supplier base of different disciplines. The ideal candidate has a track record of delivering small / medium scale deployments across retail or large corporate environments, strong Excel and problem-solving skills.
- To assume day-to-day responsibility for ensuring the timely and effective delivery of specific Retail Implementation (RIT) projects.
- To manage working level relationships with key Project Stakeholders, communicating effectively, ensuring that their requirements / expectations are met, and where possible exceeded, within any budgetary and / or timescale constraints placed on the project.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with 3rd Party Suppliers, building partnerships that help ensure that the maximum benefit is gained from their skills, knowledge and experience.
Key Accountabilities
- Plan, track and report the completion of deployment related activities, ensuring that key dependencies (both internal and external to the Team) are identified, communicated and managed appropriately and that any input required into wider planning activities (e.g., at an overall project and / or programme level) is provided in an accurate and timely manner.
- Manage deployment related risks and issues effectively, ensuing those issues are identified early, managed and resolved, risks are recognised, assessed and appropriate action taken to mitigate where possible. Escalating both issues and risks in a timely manner, if required.
- Work with Implementation Project Office and Change Team to ensure that all works comply with the current Change Management process and approval for work is achieved in a timely manner.
- Ensure all deployment related project delivery activities conform to the relevant quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Use every deployment as an opportunity to identify better and / or efficient implementation delivery mechanisms.
