We are currently recruiting a Graduate Process Engineer with an initial assignment supporting the AWE project. For more than 70 years, Atomic Weapons Enterprise (AWE) has supported the UK Government’s nuclear defence strategy and the Continuous at Sea Deterrent. They use nuclear know-how and technical expertise to provide innovative solutions that support the UK’s counterterrorism and nuclear threat reduction activities. Position Summary
Executes process engineering deliverables according to a set engineering design criteria utilizing approved engineering procedures, practices, and standards- Prepares, coordinates, and reviews designs, studies, reports, and proposals
- Takes the initiative to coordinate the detailed design development of a system with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates
Key Responsibilities
Conduct industry and academic research relating to chemical process design and apply findings to project technical challenges and evaluations- Participate in the develop and/or review of overall plant and unit simulations including development of preliminary H&MBs.
- Participate in the develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and be able to explain selected flow configuration.
- Calculation of preliminary equipment sizes, requirements identification, and development of equipment specifications.
- Attend and provide input at major reviews such a PFD reviews, HAZOPs, and model reviews. Represent the engineering discipline and being able to explain process design questions to clients and other disciplines.
- Develop preliminary utility design requirements including consumptions and the overall utility summary.
- Develop and maintain preliminary P&IDs through the Stage Gate review process
- Develop and issue line designation tables (line lists)

You have to be able to grasp the essentials of any situation quickly, think on your feet, come up with workable ideas, and then communicate them clearly and persuasively.
On course for a masters (2:1 or above) or PhD in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English with strong PC literacy (especially in MS Excel and Word)
- A conceptual understanding of chemical engineering principles of heat transfer, vapor-liquid equilibria, mass transfer and thermodynamics, and their general application to process design.
- Excellent knowledge of technical theory, engineering principles, good engineering practices and how to apply them for design execution
- Familiarity with major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design, quality, or processes
- Knowledgeable in process design of equipment, including vessels, columns, heat exchangers and package process specifications for equipment and control valves.
- Be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative as well as operate effectively as part of a team
- Be flexible and enthusiastic, producing high quality work and have an eye for detail
- Work experience that demonstrates an interest in this subject area of the EPC/Nuclear industry and extra-curricular activities will assist in your application
- Bechtel is an IChemE ACTS scheme member - we are looking for candidates who are interested in achieving IChemE chartered status
The position is open to United Kingdom (UK) Nationals only. Candidates must be able to obtain a SC security clearance.
