Mechanical Engineer Internship
We’re looking for an ambitious and intellectually curious student to join our team on an 8-week summer internship to learn, grow and contribute to our goal of a better tomorrow.
This role will provide you with an insight into the specification and development of a variety of equipment, components, systems, and data for the UK Mechanical Engineering Discipline. You will get the opportunity to use your understanding of engineering principles relating to equipment specification, technical bid evaluations, plant layout considerations, working alongside our engineers to develop specification documents, enquiry requisitions and technical bid evaluations.
Your role as a Mechanical Engineering Intern will include:
- Perform job responsibilities in Mechanical Engineering department under the direction of the Project Lead or a Principal/Senior Mechanical Engineer
- Understands or is willing to learn to interpret facility schematic drawings such as PFDs, P&IDs, and Equipment Layouts
- Prepares equipment specifications and / or data sheets
- Prepares equipment requisition packages for enquiry and purchase
- Reviews the supplier data with project requirements and specifications to ensure compliance with all relevant codes and standards
- Keen safety awareness
- Familiarity with and a high-level understanding of the relevant Worley Management and Knowledge systems with respect to engineering delivery using business process mapping
- Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley's, its customers' and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget and to the correct quality level
- Perform mechanical engineering services such as:
- Mechanical Equipment Lists
- Equipment Numbering Standards
- Engineering Database use and understanding
- SEAL Requirements
- Verification of Vendor Documentation
- Understand and undertake the technical change procedures and the importance it has
- Contribute to reports as required
- Communicate effectively with the mechanical engineering team and project stakeholders, including the customer
- Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance if required

Technical Specifications
- You will be in your penultimate year of study of an integrated Master’s degree looking to achieve a degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Or you will be in your final year of study of a bachelor’s degree in engineering looking to go on to complete a master’s in Engineering
- Our internship programmes are intended for those with minimal to no experience in Engineering and for those are still studying at university. If you have more than 2+ years paid in-industry experience in the field of Engineering and/or have already graduated and will not be completing a masters on an accredited course we would recommend applying for our other opportunities
- If you feel you do not have any relevant experiences or meet the full criteria, we encourage you to still apply. When reviewing applications, we look at all experiences, whether that’s in-industry (paid work experience), at university (e.g. your course, society membership, events etc) or even in personal study (any experiences you have outside of university or paid employment)
- You will be looking to achieve registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) or equivalent
