The role
Join the AI Engineering Research team as a placement engineer, combining your strong technical knowledge and continuous learning to support the delivery of successful computer vision and machine learning related innovation.
Liaise with development engineers, marketing and external customers to identify research opportunities. You will be exposed to cutting edge hardware and software techniques.
The AI Engineering Research Team have a track record of success. Projects in the team focus on enabling high performance, state-of-the-art machine learning (e.g. CNN, DNN, RNN) and computer vision (e.g. object detection and recognition, SLAM) algorithms in low power environments. You will have a key role in helping to develop innovative products like the recently launched Series 4NX Neural Network Accelerator (https://www.imaginationtech.com/vision-ai/img-series4-nna/).
This can be either a 3 or a 6-month opportunity.
You will:
- Support world leading research and development of computer vision and machine learning algorithms
- Investigate improvements to existing algorithms and technologies
- Implement simulations and demonstrations of new algorithms and technologies
- Write technical reports
- Work with, and be mentored by, a senior member of the AI Research Team.

You'll have:
- Strong mathematical background (including e.g. linear algebra, probability theory, signal processing)
- Currently studying at undergraduate, masters or PhD level (machine learning, computer vision or a related area)
- A physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a computer science background
- Experience with Python or C/C++ development
You might also have:
- Experience with at least one of the following tools: Tensorflow, caffe, pytorch, mxnet, keras, OpenCV
- Practical experience of applying machine learning to real world problems
