1st Grade General Studies Teacher 2023-2024
Located in Sunnyvale, California, South Peninsula Hebrew Day School is a Jewish community day school for students from 15 months through 8th grade. We are a warm and welcoming community, with positive and collaborative relationships between all stakeholders in a child’s education. SPHDS is seeking a 1st-grade teacher for the 2023/2024 school year to join our faculty and provide an outstanding educational experience to our children. Our program offers a warm and educational environment that focuses on whole-child learning with multi-discipline education tracks.

The 1st-grade teacher will:
- Serve as a lead general studies teacher alongside our Hebrew and Judaic teachers
- Design engaging, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate curriculum in partnership with the grade level team
- Be collaborative in nature and team oriented
- Regularly assess student progress using a variety of tools to monitor growth and areas of need
- Use data to tailor instruction to meet students’ academic, social, and emotional learning needs
- Create a classroom culture of respect and inclusivity for all community members; comfortable supporting SEL learning and growth of students
- Communicate with parents regularly about education program and student progress, at times including the learning specialist/tutors
- Maintain education and behavior plans for students with learning differences in collaboration with learning support team
- Participate as an active member of the school community to provide stewardship of the school, supporting community events as needed
- Seek professional growth opportunities to maintain knowledge of cutting edge pedagogy
Qualifications:
- A degree or an advanced degree in education (California teaching credential a plus)
- A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience, 5+ highly preferred
- Experience teaching reading, writing and math at elementary grades through researched based curricula
- Excellent knowledge of child development and latest pedagogy through professional development and formal learning experiences
- Experience with PBL methods a plus
Compensation is competitive and health benefits are included in both full and part-time positions.

South Peninsula Hebrew Day School is an established institution with almost forty years of history in the South Peninsula area, currently serving 225 students from 15 months of age through Eighth grade. The school is bilingual and bicultural, with a curriculum that includes a half day of Hebrew language, literature and Jewish studies.
