Pentland Court, Rehab and Recovery Service is predominately aimed at patients with severe and enduring psychos. The Service comprises a stand alone block of 6 flats in the residencies area on the periphery of St John’s Hospital grounds. The Service can accommodate ten in-patients in five flats. One of the five flats can cater for patients with physical disabilities. Each flat has either 2/3 single bedrooms, sitting room, fully fitted kitchen, toilet, and bathroom with bath/shower. The unit is mixed sex but has single sex flat occupancy.
The service specialises in working with people whose long term and complex needs cannot be met by general adult mental health services. Patients in the unit are recovering from severe and enduring mental illness mainly psychosis and bipolar. They may also have alcohol and substance misuse issues, affective disorder and anxiety. Patients are usually transferred to the unit from the acute admission ward but some are admitted directly from their home via the Community Mental Health team. The Unit provides a holistic specialist assessment, treatment, interventions and support to help people to recover from complex mental health problems and to (re)gain the skills and confidence to live successfully in the community. Staff work with patients within the unit, in their own homes and while attending community resources. All rotational staff work a combination of day and night duties.
