Zero Carbon Applications Intern

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract – 9 Months
Working hours: Full Time, Flexible working hours
Location: Whilst your base office will be in London, we’ll support you to work flexibly from home (providing a suite of IT equipment), whilst coming together on site to offer face to face support and collaboration on a weekly basis
Closing date: 9th April
Salary: £21,000 + excellent benefits


Join EDF as a Zero Carbon Applications Intern and you will help to develop and deliver research and development projects relating to Heat decarbonisation, mobility, carbon accounting, and aviation decarbonisation activities.


This role is a part of the wider Smart Customers team at the EDF Research & Development UK Centre. Smart customers is a highly skilled internal multidisciplinary team which explores a range of new technologies and business models to support EDF’s ambition to help Britain achieve Net Zero.


The opportunity…


As a member of the Zero Carbon Applications team, you will contribute to a portfolio of projects relating to Smart Customers (e.g. hydrogen production, storage, district heating & electrification) as commissioned by the Business unit, EDF R&D and in partnership with other organisations across EDF Group and externally, delivering to defined success criteria.


You will be responsible for sourcing data and information for the use in research projects, interacting with technology suppliers and undertaking technical and commercial modelling of energy systems. As the Zero Carbon Applications Intern you will also monitor technical, commercial, and operational innovation, investigate and evaluate innovation and manage and develop relationships with potential partners and suppliers.

What we’re looking for…


We are looking for somebody with a scientific or engineering background who has good experience in developing and managing projects, knowledge of the power generation sector and experience of data-gathering and analysis.


As the Zero Carbon Applications Intern, you will be working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and technical colleagues from across the wider EDF Group, therefore we are looking for somebody with excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to working within a team and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships.


You will have a passion for low carbon electricity and a net zero future, demonstrate an understanding of hydrogen production and end-use and knowledge of UK energy systems and new technologies that could support decarbonisation.
