Do you want to be part of an integral team who work with young people who’ve had contact with the police, have been arrested, or are likely to enter the criminal justice system in the near future?
We’re looking for a youth Support Time & Recovery (STR) Worker to join our Thames Valley Liaison & Diversion Service.
You’re enthusiastic, dynamic and passionate about making a difference to the lives and life chances of young people. You’ll develop and strengthen links with other stakeholders, such as the youth offending and neighbourhood police teams, and be an advocate for young people.
You will work in police custody, court and the community providing 1:1 person-centred support around anger management, emotional regulation and more, promoting a reduction in reoffending and diverting young people away police contact.
We work across sites in Berkshire. Your base can be flexible, but you will be expected to travel around Berkshire to meet young people. You will be comfortable managing your own workload and working independently.
This is a Monday to Friday, 9-5 role. We're looking for someone with an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification. You might be a recent graduate looking for your first social care job or already be working within the sector. What matters most is your passion and determination to support vulnerable young people. Overseas sponsorship is not available for this role and you must have the right to work in the UK.
- Work alongside Liaison and Diversion practitioners as part of the Liaison and Diversion Team under the direction of the team lead.
- Work with young people providing support with practical concerns or difficulties that might be affecting their health and wellbeing
- Provide time limited 1:1 sessions to young people delivering psychoeducation that allows the individual and their families to gain a better understanding of the challenges being faced and develop personal coping strategies/mechanisms that aid a greater internal well-being. For example, anger management, emotional regulation, and life skills are just some of the low-level sessions that are offered.
- Develop links into the community and agencies to enable improved, supported access to services.
- Operate flexibly countywide in the community, custody suites and magistrates’ courts.
- To work independently with work managed and goals agreed that are reviewed through regular supervision.
- Minimum of 12-18 months relevant work experience in supporting vulnerable clients.
- NVQ level 3 in health and social care or relevant training to diploma level.
- A warm personality, good communication and people skills.
- Licence holder with access to your own vehicle and prepared to travel across Berkshire as required (travel and mileage will be reimbursed in line with our Trust’s policy).
