As a Youth Escort Custody Driver your role is to provide court transportation services collecting Children and Young People from prisons, police stations or Youth Offender Institutions and transporting them safely and securely to courts. Once there, you’ll ensure that in our care they feel safe and secure from the point that the escort commences to the point the escort concludes. Once in Court you’re responsible for every aspect of their care throughout the day until it is time for return to custody or release. Duties include searching property or people; ensuring there is a high regard to emotional and physical well-being, and that any anxieties are recognised and managed; prevent escape, self-harm, harm to others and damage to property; ensure food and drink is available and completing paperwork and data entry for the day.
Our roles are 40 hours per week. Daytime shifts Monday- Saturday. You must be flexible as there will be occasions when finish times are unpredictable.
What you need to do the job
The great thing is, there is no previous experience required! What is key is that you are patient and understanding. Our roles would suit those who have an interest in criminology or psychology and working with children’s & young people.
If you are successful through our eligibility & assessment process, we will invite you to attend a five-week training course that’ll provide you with the skills you need to be a Youth Escort Custody Officer.
You must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and be able to use those skills to manage and control situations. Using language that Children and Young People can understand, whilst showing interest in them as individuals ensures your detainee remains calm and cared for.
This role requires you to collect and travel with the Children and Young People to any of the 7 Youth Offender Institutes in England, therefore it is essential that you hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
