We are advertising for a Youth Development Worker to work in the villages of Great and Little Shelford, Stapleford and Sawston in Cambridgeshire, with a main base in the SSYI Youth Centre in Great Shelford.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person to join our team, who is passionate about supporting young people aged between 11 and 18 years old to grow, thrive and overcome challenges. You will need to be comfortable working in large and small groups and 1:1, and able to plan, lead and support sessions indoors and out, including activities such as football, skateboarding, and discussion groups.
We are looking to employ a youth worker who will get to know the community and be able to encourage young people to some of the many activities available, including via detached work around the villages. We seek to reach the hard-to-reach young people and utilise the resources of SSYI and the local area to serve them.
Over 200 young people are involved in SSYI activities, and we are looking to increase that in line with the known need in the surrounding area. We collaborate closely with the parish councils and local schools and have a link with Romsey Mill’s Youth Development Team, who provide team support, training and development guidance.
SSYI’s aims are to promote the physical, mental, educational, social and spiritual welfare of young people in the villages of Great Shelford, Little Shelford and Stapleford, and other neighbouring villages in South Cambridgeshire. We provide youth activities and support for local 10–18-year-olds, particularly those who are vulnerable, hard-to-reach, and most in need. Activities include open access and targeted groups, 1-1 support, schools work and community projects. These provide opportunities to build relationships with young people, encouraging positive behaviour, community involvement and informal education.
The post holder will require a DBS check and must be willing to undertake safeguarding training and other training relevant to the role.
