The Ain Dah Yung Center is looking for a Youth Care Worker to provide general supervision to youth between the ages of 16 through 21 in a small group home setting. The Beverley A. Benjamin Youth Lodge is a culturally specific transitional living program for American Indian youth and young adults that have no parental, substitute, foster or institutional home to which they can safely go. Primary program objectives are to stabilize youth in a safe, culturally supportive environment, address the critical issues/barriers to resident self-sufficiency and strengthen residents' community and cultural connections. Hours for this position are Sunday & Monday nights from 10pm to 10am rotating every other weekend. Job Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for facilities management and cleanliness during overnight hours at the Youth Lodge 2. Responsible for enforcing a daily schedule and enforcing facility standards, program policies and procedures. 3. Track and ensure youth safe arrival/departure from lodge in evening and morning and perform bed checks 4. Monitor surveillance camera system and arm/disarm alarm system at required times 5. Provide emotional support and cultural guidance to residents, including conferring with the Youth Lodge Coordinator regarding incidents, behaviors and general conduct of residents. 6. Perform cleaning duties that include kitchen clean-up & dishes, resident laundry, cleaning/organizing of the house, and occasionally cleaning bathrooms. 7. Request Youth Lodge expenditures including food, supplies, equipment and other program needs. 8. Maintain inventory of food, supplies and equipment. 9. Provide information and referral to appropriate systems, agencies and service providers. 10. Attend periodic cultural, social, recreational activities for Youth Lodge residents 11. Occasionally attend House Meetings in conjunction with the Transitional Living Program Case Manager, overseen by Youth Lodge Coordinator and/or Residential Director 12. Attend required program staffing, agency all-staff meetings and trainings 13. Other duties as assigned Qualifications: 1. A minimum of 2 years of college in human services, education, psychology or related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Four years of direct service experience may substitute for academic requirements 2. At least 2 years of experience working with youth and families in a human service setting 3. Experience in shelter, group home or another residential program preferred 4. Must be cognizant of and sensitive to the special needs/issues of American Indians and homeless youth 5. Must be knowledgeable of the American Indian culture, values, and family systems 6. Possess practical knowledge of larger systems and service providers encountered by youth preparing for independent living preferred 7. Must be cognizant of and sensitive to the needs and issues of youth and youth adults in transition 8. Must have excellent work record and be able to demonstrate stability, role modeling for Youth Lodge residents. 9. Must possess working knowledge of basic youth health, nutrition, and development 10. Be able to model healthy lifestyles and positive choices to youth 11. Must maintain a chemically healthy lifestyle 12. Must have basic written and communication skills 13. Must have basic organizational, reporting and management skills 14. Must have basic computer skills including ability to navigate MS Office products 15. Must pass a MN DHS Background Check · Office equipment including telephone systems, multifunction copier, MS Office and Outlook and learn the use of security camera and door system software. · Must be at least 21 years or older and pass DHS Background Check.
