Aston University
Full Time Birmingham, England 88364 - 119133 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Aston Medical School is a recently established School whose first cohort of MBChB students is in final year. It is a vibrant and collegiate place to work and study and promotes social mobility, leadership qualities, and international connectivity to prepare students for the challenges of clinical practice. This is underpinned by a programme of translational research aimed at transforming lives.

We now have an exciting part-time opportunity for an experienced clinical educator with ongoing Consultant or GP clinical practice, to join the academic team as the Year 3 Lead. Supported by the Director of Medical Education Phase 2, and the Dean of Medical Education, the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of Year 3 and in addition will develop their own medical speciality across the 5-year programme.

Teaching within the MBChB, focuses on highly interactive learning experiences. The postholder will provide large and small group workshops, lectures, technology enhanced learning, and tutoring. There will be opportunities for the successful applicant to contribute to simulation-based education, including within the new Acute Care Simulation Room, and to support inter-professional education across the College.

You will be expected to pursue opportunities for collaborative scholarship in medical education or other disciplines within the Medical School.

We are looking for an experienced clinical educator with a track record of scholarship, keenly developed leadership and management skills, a passion for teaching and supporting learning, and an enthusiasm for cross-discipline working with colleagues in the University and NHS to deliver integrated sessions of high quality. Ideally, we are looking for someone to take up the whole 0.6 FTE post and become a leading member of our team, but we will consider candidates wishing to take up a fraction of the post.

We strongly encourage applicants to discuss their plans with their Clinical Director (or equivalent) before applying since the intention is to develop a combined clinical contract between the University and the Trust for the successful applicant.

Postholders will be expected to continue with at least two PAs of clinical practice at Consultant/GP level per week. Enhanced DBS clearance will be required.

We also encourage informal discussions of the post with curriculum leads in Aston Medical School. To discuss the post please contact Mrs Janet Drury in the first instance: Tel +44(0) 121 204 4585 or Email [email protected]. Visits to the educational facilities will be arranged.

Applicants are asked to submit a CV along with the application
