Victoria Royals owner GSL Group – which also co-owns online news platform VictoriaNow.com – is opening up the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre to an exceptional intern sports reporter.
The successful candidate will be given the chance to prove themselves as part of VictoriaNow’s fast-paced newsroom while gaining invaluable on-the-job experience.
NowMedia, which is one of the fastest-growing news brands in British Columbia, will support and guide the lucky intern as they cover all things sports – and particularly the Royals – in the B.C. provincial capital.
We’d expect you to:
Be a student on a recognized journalism course or a recent graduate from a journalism course looking for experience
Have a demonstrable passion for and comprehensive knowledge of sports in BC (candidates with knowledge of the Victoria Royals will have a significant advantage)
Know how to write clean, accurate copy under deadline
Have strong communication skills
Be an eager, tenacious worker
Be open to working varied hours to cover sporting events, with a particular focus on the Victoria Royals
Have the ability to work alone
What you can expect:
This internship will begin in September and run for at least four months (a permanent position at NowMedia could be available when the term ends)
The successful candidate will be expected to work at NowMedia’s Victoria office in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre
Usual work hours will be between 8 am and 4:30 pm but could vary to accommodate the coverage of live events
