Peterson Cat has a need for a Workers' Compensation and Safety Administrator at our San Leandro, CA location.
SUMMARY
The Workers’ Compensation and Safety Specialist administers the workers' compensation program for Peterson. Implements a consistent process for recording, investigating, and reporting workers' compensation claims, complying with laws and regulations. Prepares and submits required reporting and documentation to OSHA, state and local agencies, and other entities. Monitors all workers’ compensation claims and liaises with the employees, managers, insurance and claims representatives, medical staff, and attorneys involved with a case. Communicates case status details and necessary information to involved parties, including notifications of hearings, outcomes, return to work, or restrictions. Performs periodic reviews of overall cases to identify trends. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all regulations and laws for reporting workers' compensation. This position also supports the safety team with program administration in areas of New Hire Orientation, required safety training program monitoring, safety glass, work boot and hearing test programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Workers’ Compensation Administration:
- Processes multi-state employee workers’ compensation claims, including filing claims with carrier, communicating, and coordinating with employees, managers, safety managers and carriers on return to work capabilities and agreements. Review workers’ compensation claims with the carrier for causation and possible subrogation opportunities.
- Remains current on federal and state workers’ compensation laws and best practices.
- Coordinate with Human Resources when an employee has requested a reasonable accommodation due to disability or has work restrictions that may prevent them from accomplishing their essential job duties.
- Coordinate with Human Resources when an employee is placed on a leave of absence due to a Workers Compensation Claim.
- Anticipates and proactively plans for employees who will be released to restricted duty and identifies potential assignments.
- Responsible for completing annual OSHA 300 Logs and Summaries and annual electronic submission of records to OSHA.
- Represents the Company in dispute resolution processes or during Workers’ Compensation mediation as appropriate.
- Participates in Workers’ Compensation claims management meetings, provides input on claims resolution and settlements.
- Maintains confidentiality with all employee medical information, ensures it is shared only with those with a legitimate business need to know, and in a confidential and secure manner.
Safety Department Program Administration
- Assists the Safety team with program administration and other projects as requested.
- Support the Safety team with new hire employee safety onboarding including maintaining checklists and follow up as necessary.
- Administer Company work boot and prescription safety eye ware programs.
- Run training and certification expiration reports to proactively ensure managers and employees do not fall overdue as related to MSHA, arcflash, forklift, Lockout Tagout and other work-related life critical safety policies.
- Liaison with Peterson University to share with them safety courses & quizzes that need to be uploaded to the Peterson Success Center.
- Coordinate annual OSHA required Hearing Test scheduling at all locations with appropriate vendors. Maintain records related to hearing tests and follow up on potential standard threshold shifts
- Assist with managing third-party vendors such as ISNetworld, Aveta, Browse
- Oversee corporate 1st aid expense and compliance
- Verifies that all employee medical information is shared only with those with a legitimate business need to know, and in a confidential and secure manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree from a fully accredited college in Safety Administration, Safety Management or other closely related field (Preferred)
- Minimum of two years in Workers’ Compensation, Safety Department experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience as a Workers’ Compensation Claims adjustor preferred.
- Must possess understanding of current Workers’ Compensation and OSHA regulations.
