Job description
The London office of Vivienne Westwood is currently recruiting a Designer in the Womenswear Design Department for Maternity Cover. This is a challenging and superb opportunity for a talented designer to join a luxury and successful brand.
The applicant will be required to have suitable skills to fulfil the following tasks:
- Fully integrate and communicate within the Menswear Team and all other employees in the company.
- Working as Senior Designer in a team with Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler as Creative Directors
- Leading and controlling the workflow, overall and in detail, from concept to completion according to Vivienne’s and Andreas’ brief. At the same time following the structure of the merchandising plan which is given and approved at the beginning of each season, ensuring that design and creative projects are delivered on time.
- Following sales reports weekly and SWOT analysis to ensure product is on target for its market.
- Researching and designing new developments of the collection (style ideas, fabrics, artworks, details, finishing, etc.) for outerwear, tailoring, shirts, dresses, and tops.
- Presenting the collection to internal sales and merchandising teams several times per season to fulfil their needs.
- Managing design meetings with the team, whereby new ideas and designs get discussed and approved.
- Attending all fittings with design team and various production companies (London and Milan).
- Liaising with the product development and fabric team regarding all deadlines (design, fabric, fittings).
- Meeting together with the fabric team suppliers to source and develop fabrics, embellishments, trims, and hardware.
- Collaborating with print / graphic designers and fabric team on artworks and fabric developments.
- Collaborating closely together with Marketing team: Attending digital / online / internal / campaign photoshoots (casting, fitting, styling) as well as seasonal fashion events. Also creating and organising styling items for them.
- Providing technical presentations and documents for each season as well as doing all spec drawings.
Skills and experience:
- Previous experience in a Luxury Brand
- Design or fashion related qualifications
- Understanding of the critical path with the ability to work to seasonal deadlines.
- Ability to design across both graphic and garments
- Pattern making, draping and sketching skills.
- Knowledge of textile and ability to identify and manipulate fabric
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and in Photoshop. To also have a good understanding and use of Microsoft Office and Excel.
