The International Women Group (IWG) is seeking to deploy an experienced support and advocacy staff with a focused remit on helping and supporting the diverse refugee women in Glasgow.

Women’s Refugee Support & Advocacy Worker: (16 hrs pw)

Salary: 16 hours (pro rata) £10,514.29 and pension

Start : ASAP. This post is for one year with the potential to extend it if funding is secured.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our organisation as a Women’s Refugee Support and Advocacy Officer. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing knowledge and advocacy support to women refugees, with the aim of helping them settle into Scotland. The role will primarily emphasis on deploying a rights-based approach to empowering women refugees via assisting their equal prospects to accessing rights and responsive service provisions while enhancing their integration opportunities at all levels.

Responsibilities:

1. Knowledge and Information Provision:

· Very good knowledge and understanding of the rights, entitlement, and available support services for women refugees in Scotland.

· Experience in initiating, developing and delivering tailored information sessions and workshops to women refugees, addressing their specific needs and concerns.

2. Advocacy and Support:

· Provide one-on-one support to women refugees, helping them navigate legal, administrative, and social systems in Scotland.

· Advocate for the rights of women refugees, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed by relevant stakeholders

· Collaborate with community organizations, government agencies, and service providers to enhance support provisions at various levels for women refugees.

3. Integration and Community Engagement:

· Develop and deliver initiatives and programs to facilitate the social integration of women refugees into Scottish society, fostering cross-cultural understanding and community cohesion.

· Organise and facilitate group activities, workshops, and events that encourage participation and create a sense of belonging.

· Collaborate with local community groups, volunteers, and mentors to provide ongoing support and mentoring to women refugees.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

· Monitor and evaluate initiatives effectively to measure the impact of support and advocacy initiatives.

· Compile and analyse data, producing reports to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.

· Ensure compliance with organizational policies, legal frameworks, and data protection regulations.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential

· Minimum HNC qualification in social work, community learning and development, human rights, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and trust with diverse individuals and communities.

· Strong advocacy skills, with the ability to represent the interests and rights of women refugees effectively.

· Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team, and manage multiple tasks within deadlines.

· Cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a commitment to promoting gender equality and social inclusion.

· Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in additional languages spoken by refugee communities is highly desirable.

Desired

· Demonstrated experience in working with refugee populations, particularly women, and a strong understanding of the challenges they face.

· Familiarity with the rights-based approach and experience applying it to support vulnerable populations.

· Knowledge of refugee rights, international human rights standards, and relevant legal frameworks in Scotland.
