At Green Light Trust we use the power of nature to support young people who face challenges in their lives. This could be in relation to difficulties engaging with their learning, behavioural challenges, mental health and wellbeing, domestic circumstances or additional learning needs.

Our work quite literally changes lives and is at the cutting edge of person-centred care and education practice. We work with young people to build their own learning programmes that is supportive of their individual needs and stay with them long enough to enable them to develop beyond our support, building resilience, confidence, and self-esteem.

Purpose of the role
Our innovative work with young people is growing rapidly, leading to us expanding our delivery provision for 16 – 25-year-olds. You will come from either a teaching or youth work background, with a passion and interest in the natural environment. You will work alongside the EHCP manager and the learner to co-design suitable activity to progress learners and provide opportunities for young people to engage in education, learn essential life skills and grow in confidence and self-esteem within the natural environment. You will work with participants to achieve EHCP outcomes and short-term person-centred goals, liaising with your colleagues and partner organisations to progress them. You will be patient, positive, culturally smart and have the ability to flex your approach to motivate and encourage. Part of this role is physically active within an outdoor setting, all year round.

Person Specification:

We are looking for someone with the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of working with marginalised and vulnerable adults and young people, either 1:1 or in small groups
  • Working with people with additional or/and special educational needs
  • Writing person-centred learning and development programmes for groups and individuals
  • Maintaining good relationships with partners and families to achieve outcomes
  • Knowledge of with Education and Health Care Plans
  • Clear understanding of inclusive learning
  • Awareness of how the natural environment can be used as a tool to engage and develop learners
  • Experience of compiling information and reports

Essential Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt your approach and style
  • Creative thinker, with proven problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate respect for all cultures, religions and beliefs
  • Resilient and driven to achieve results important to the young person
  • Proven ICT skills, with Microsoft packages
  • Strong team player

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the natural environment either in a conservation or education setting
  • Experience in managing and achieving outcomes in Education and Health Care Plans
  • A working knowledge of Forest School delivery
  • A teaching qualification or PTLLS, CTTLLS or DTLLS
  • Practical experience within the natural environment (e.g. conservation, woodland management, bushcraft, green woodworking or outdoor education)

Although your primary focus will be working with EHCP participants to progress their learning, wellbeing and social needs, you will also have opportunity to work on Adult Mental Health courses, Step-By-Step (SEND) and our Natural Alternative (children and young people) programme, providing additional diversity within the role.

Other details

Probation period 3 months from start of employment.
Place of work Across Suffolk - flexibility required. Working from home will be an option for part of the role where administrative or planning tasks are required.
Travel A full, clean driving license is essential, as travel is required to fulfil the role.
The standard Green Light Trust mileage rate will be payable for the business use of the post holder’s private car.
DBS Fully Enhanced DBS will be required in the event of a successful application, as you will be in contact with vulnerable adults and children.
