Job description
We are looking to recruit 2 Animal Care Assistants to work in our Kennels and Cattery on weekends. The suitable candidates will be able to commit to either every Saturday or every Sunday. This is initially a fixed term role for 6 months. Applications will be considered for those who wish to work both days every weekend to combine the positions into 1.
There will also be the opportunity for ad hoc casual day/lock up shifts to cover holiday & sickness.
Applicants will be expected to be dedicated, self-motivated and with good time management skills. Ideal candidates will be open to working with both cats and dogs.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a commitment to animal welfare to join us, ideally with cat and/or dog experience, a good knowledge of a cattery/kennel environment and preferably an animal care related qualification, although this is not crucial as training will be given.
Being a team player however is essential, along with a can do attitude. Normal working hours are 8:00am – 5pm to include a 1hr unpaid lunch break. From time to time, there may be a requirement to work a split shift 8:00am-2pm then 7pm-9pm or a late shift 12 noon - 9pm. This can be discussed in more detail at interview stage.
Due to our remote location, own transport is necessary.

Key Duties
To work as part of a team to ensure that the animals in our care are fed,
exercised, have clean accommodation and receive medical attention if
needed.
To take instructions from the management team and supervisors to comply
with instructions for different kennel/cattery areas.
To be aware of and comply with Health & Safety issues relating to your role.
Communicating with fellow staff to work effectively as a team.
To carry out any job, within your capabilities, as and when required.
Cattery Duties include:
Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, cleaning daily and
disinfecting, ensuring faeces are removed from litter trays asap.
Ensure fresh water is always available.
Preparing and handing out cat feeds.
Spending time with cats playing, grooming, cuddling and supervising garden
area playtime.
Socialising cats.
Dealing with behaviour (e.g. nervous cats) following training/enrichment
plans set by our behaviourist.
Talking to volunteers and public, assessing each cats behaviour to match with
the most suitable home.
Checking over new arrivals once fully trained.
Worming and de-fleaing and administering medication once fully trained.
Writing signs to promote cats to public.
Being observant and reporting to the Kennel/Cattery Manager/supervisor
any signs of illness, not eating or other problems.
Mentor work experience placements once fully trained.
Keep up to date administrative records, admittance paperwork and ongoing
health/behaviour notes.
Kennel Duties include:
Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness of blocks, cleaning daily,
changing bedding and disinfecting.
Preparing and handing out dog feeds, ensuring fresh water is always available.
Walking, playing games in the gardens, grooming.
Socialising dogs with other dogs and people.
Implementing training plans and enrichment recommended by our
behaviourist and within your capabilities.
Talking to volunteers and public, assessing each dog’s behaviour to match
with the most suitable home.
Checking over new arrivals once training given.
Worming and de-fleaing and administering medication once fully trained.
Being observant and reporting to management any signs of illness, not eating or behaviour problems.
Mentor work experience placements once fully trained.
Keep up to date administrative records, admittance paperwork and ongoing
health/behaviour notes.
Ensure kennels, garden areas and fields are kept clean

Salary: £9.18-£10.42 per hour
