In Mar 2019, the MoD made the decision to procure the E-7 Wedgetail AEW Mk1 aircraft. The E-7 fleet will replace the current E-3D Sentry aircraft and ensure the delivery of the UK’s Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) capability at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.
Upon completion of Production, the Wedgetail AEW Mk1 will undertake a flight test programme to assure the platform meets the capability requirements. Boeing Defence UK is required to deliver a scope of work to support the Boeing US team. This programme of non-recurring activities will be delivered by a number of Boeing entities and suppliers, primarily located in UK and will require a collaborative approach to successfully achieve its aims. Specifically, the programme will require coordination and travel between MoD Boscombe Down, Bristol and RAF Lossiemouth.
In support of this delivery programme, an outstanding opportunity for a Project Manager to join Boeing Defence UK has arisen ! Initially supporting the Wedgetail programme, there is an opportunity for the individual to become the subject matter expert on Project Management of Flight Test activities and support other platforms in the future.
The location of the role is flexible, can be Bristol, Salisbury or Lossiemouth for the right candidate, with opportunity for remote working, but will require travel within the UK to meet the needs of the programme.
Key Responsibilities
The role will be responsible for all the reporting and associated metrics aligned with the successful delivery of the Flight Test scope of work. The role will require collaboration across the Boeing enterprise, where a close working relationship will need to be established to ensure governance of information. Reporting to the BDUK Wedgetail Programme Manager, but with close working with the Flight Test Integrated Project Team (IPT) Leader, the Project Manager will be responsible for all BDUK activities in support of the Flight scope of work.
Key Responsibilities are:
Project Status Reporting – Working in coordination with internal and external collaborators to ensure project reporting is timely, accurate and helpful in tracking programme status and in giving overall delivery confidence. Participate in Programme Management Meetings providing accurate reporting to demonstrate programme performance. Identify variances in performance and lead recovery plans to chart a route to green on the schedule.
Project Risk Reporting – Supporting the maintenance, in consultation with workstream leads and other collaborators, a register of project risks, issues and opportunities that relate to the scope of work. Identification of new risks, issues and opportunities and ensure they are correctly managed.
Project Assurance and Compliance – Support the application of Boeing Programme Management Best Practice, ensuring regular assessments are undertaken.
Communications – Ensure that communications across the programme are well-represented and any potential issues are brought to the early attention to the Wedgetail leadership team.
Master Data and Assumptions List – Acting as a focal point for capture and update of project MDAL and driving assumptions to certainty wherever possible.
Quality Review- Supporting the project in the execution against an agreed Quality Management Plan to ensure first time quality is achieved wherever possible and rework is minimised.
We expect an extensive experience in working within a dynamic environment, so they can be immediately effective within a fast paced, dynamic production programme. The individual will need to be leader amongst their peers and be able to manage a large and complex group of collaborators. The ideal candidate will have a background in the project management of military flight test programme and be able to manage a large and complex group of partners.
Essential Competencies:
Strong Leadership skills, with a track record of successfully delivering projects
A strong focus on schedule, cost and quality requirements
Ability to support complex and challenging system integration projects
Experience of the military regulatory environment would be an advantage
Proven ability to manage change within a challenging schedule;
Proven experience in assuring project activities for compliance with standards, procedures and baseline schedule plans in a demanding and regulated environment;
Proven experience of good collaborator management skills across multiple partners (e.g. client, third parties, equipment suppliers, sponsor, assurance, contractors) to ensure project coherence and alignment;
Proven ability to demonstrate budgetary and programme control over the life of the production contract.
