Job description
We are looking for a software engineer with experience in developing web applications to help develop the interface between teaching dynamometer systems and learners. This is part of an exciting project recently awarded to the University of Sheffield by Innovate UK (£633k). The project is concerned with bridging the skills gap in power electronics, machines and drives (PEMD) through the development of an innovative multidisciplinary practical training resource facilitating both hands-on and remote practical training.
The candidate will be working closely with a team of colleagues from the department of MEE as well as with colleagues from the department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering as part of the Practical Power Electronics, Machines and Drives for All (‘PPEMD for All’) project.
Multidisciplinary Engineering Education (MEE) is a cross-faculty department responsible for delivering practical teaching for the Faculty of Engineering within extensive laboratory and workshop facilities, based in The Diamond building. MEE in The Diamond has a team of around 50 academic, technical and administrative staff, providing a research-led and student-centred learning experience that provides the opportunity for students to realise their full potential as engineering leaders: people who will shape the future of the world we live in.
The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) comprises 154 staff including 44 academic staff, 22 of whom are Professors, 7 teaching staff, research and support staff. Our vibrant and internationally diverse student cohort numbers circa 1000 including undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research students. The Department currently holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award and strives to be as diverse and inclusive a community as possible.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
