About the opportunity:
We are currently looking for a permanent Water Quality Scientist to join our growing Operations and Quality department at our Cardiff Office.
As a Water Quality Scientist, you will support the Senior Water Quality Scientist with a wide range of tasks such as the preparation of regulatory submissions and the assessment of water quality, operational and customer contact data. These tasks help ensure customers receive a high-quality supply of drinking water. Icosa Water is a dynamic business so the successful candidate will need to be driven and flexible as they will be expected to provide help and support across the wider business deliver drinking and wastewater services.

Your responsibilities:
- Development and updating of the of the drinking water and wastewater monitoring program.
- Data entry and management of the Water Quality database.
- Preparation of zonal water quality statistics and wastewater treatment works performance data.
- Assistance with preparation of routine monthly and annual regulatory submissions to the DWI.
- Liaising with the contract laboratory (currently ALS Environmental)
- Monitoring of contractual KPIs.
- Development, management and submission of Regulatory 28 Risk assessment reports (RARs).
- Using performance and analytical data to inform and where necessary update the companies RARs.
- Adhoc investigations into regulatory failures and preparation of DWI exceedance reports.
- Provide input and help update company policies, procedures and guidance documents.
- To keep abreast of current and future water quality regulations.
- Provide assistance with preparation of Water resource and drought plans.
Asset related Water Quality tasks including but not limited to:
- Identification of sections of network requiring maintenance such as flushing.
- Liaising with Field Service Technicians.
- Using company systems to undertake water balances to identify issues.
- Using company systems to schedule maintenance activities.
- Using company systems to update asset information.
- Provide input to develop systems to enable the monitoring of flows, pressures.
- Provide input to develop systems which assess asset performance and condition.
- Provide input to identify suitable asset maintenance activities and frequencies.
Experience / Knowledge:
The role holder must have experience in at least in one or more of the following areas:
- Water quality or environmental regulations.
- Working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
- Water treatment – drinking and/or wastewater.
- Asset Management.
- A degree in a science-related discipline is essential.
- Membership of a recognised professional body is desirable but not essential

- Knowledge of water hygiene practices.
- An awareness of the water industry, particularly water companies, and health and safety regulations.
