Water Quality Sampling Officer

Water Quality Sampling Officer Sheffield, England

Yorkshire Water
Full Time Sheffield, England 21491 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Salary & Benefits - Starting salary from £21,491.00 per annum dependent on experience + performance bonus + pension + 25 days annual leave + company van + standby payments + training & development opportunities, in line with the Water Quality Sampling Officer progression plan.

Locations – These two roles are for different locations. One is based in York and the surround areas, one is based in Sheffield. Both require regular travel throughout the region.

A full valid UK driving licence is an essential requirement of this role and we require you to have less than 6 points on your driving licence.

What will the role involve?

Day to day the role involves travelling around the region as a lone worker, following strict procedures to collect water samples to fulfil the regulatory sampling programme. Samples are taken from randomly selected customer properties, water treatment works, service reservoirs and water towers.

As this is a customer facing role you will be expected to deliver exceptional customer service by resolving customer issues on site or reporting them appropriately, as well as identifying any issues on fixed assets that relate to sampling. Please note, all customer visits are on a cold call basis.

You will be required to work flexibly and manage your own workload to maximise efficiency and accurately record sampling data.

While normal working hours are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, once fully trained you will be required to participate in an operational standby rota which involves out of hours working.

What skills are we looking for?

  • You will be a lone mobile worker, so your personal health and safety awareness is essential, as is your awareness of the health and safety of colleagues.
  • You will represent the face of Yorkshire Water when meeting our customers, so it is important that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You must be organised and able to plan your working day efficiently around the samples you are allocated.
  • As the sampling day is often subject to change you must be comfortable with this and show a flexible and adaptable approach to your work.
  • Taking clean water samples will require you to follow strict procedures so it is very important that you take due care and have an eye for detail.
  • All sampling data is logged, therefore basic IT skills are required, and it is essential that you feel confident in the use of IT in your everyday role and that you show a willingness to learn relevant corporate systems.
  • As a lone mobile worker, you will be provided with your own equipment and vehicle which are your responsibility to keep clean, tidy, and damage-free. A full valid UK driving licence is essential.
  • You will be taking part in physical, manual duties, working outdoors in all weathers and this will at times involve working at heights or in enclosed spaces.

If you feel this opportunity is suitable and you match the skills required, then please apply online and complete the application process. If you could also, please upload an up to date copy of your CV and cover letter outlining your relevant experience for the role.

Advert End Date: 4th May 2023

Interviews to be held - 17th & 18th May

If successful for the role, you will be required to undergo pre-employment checks that will include a Basic Disclosure Check, carried out through a Third Party Company, prior to commencing employment. Depending on the role, you may also be required to go through the security vetting process for either a Counter Terrorist Check or Security Check clearance
