Starting salary – £19,587
Location - Fort William
Join the Scottish Water family and flourish
Most people don’t think too much about how clean water reaches their taps. Or what happens to their wastewater.
But Scottish Water does. In fact, it’s all we think about.
That, and hiring our next modern apprentice superstar.
A real alternative to university
Work-based learning means hands-on experience, tailored to suit you. On our 2–4-year programmes you’ll learn skills you can only get on the job. And most importantly, you’ll be working towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ).
You may even want to stay on and pursue a career with us. (That, by the way, is a very real option.)
What will you be doing?
During this 4 year programme, you’ll be learning everything you need to know about how we treat waste water and return it to the environment safely. That means most of your days will be spent outdoors, on our operational sites - working as part of an expert and experienced team who will support you to develop your skills and knowledge and achieve a nationally recognised qualification. This is your chance to learn as you earn, working with industry-leading teams to help deliver services that are essential to the daily lives of the people of Scotland.
What’s in it for you?
Opportunity
We want you to challenge and stretch yourself – and we’re here to help you make the most of your skills and abilities with first-class training, support, and a huge investment in your development.
Teamwork
The best bit? You’ll be working as part of a team championing your success. They’re here to help develop your skills, all the way to a nationally recognised qualification.
Confidence
We want you to feel confident and to share your ideas, because they help us work better. We respect and value peoples’ differences. It’s why people love working here.
What you’ll bring
We’re keen to meet applicants from all backgrounds with five National 4 or 5 Qualifications (English, Maths and Science are good, but not a dealbreaker) and a full UK driving licence (or learning, fast!).
Complete your application for our 2023 Apprentice Programme, starting in August by 23.59 on the 2nd April.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
Our normal working hours are 9-5pm, Monday to Friday – but you may need to work outside of those hours sometimes depending on the job you’re working on. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
You’ll be offered a fixed term contract for the length of your programme. After successful completion of the programme, you may be offered a permanent role within one of our teams.
