Job description
Full time role although part time hours would be considered for the right candidate. Job share also considered.
Could you be part of the team that improves the management of waste and recycling across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, whilst also progressing your career in waste management?
As a place, BCP Council is the tenth-largest urban local authority in England with 397,000 residents and 15 million visitors each year to our globally recognised coastline and vibrant towns. As a result, BCP Council manages 200,000 tonnes of waste each year.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Waste Management Officer to join our friendly, approachable and collaborative Strategic Waste team to help shape and implement our waste strategy, related policies and transform our waste infrastructure, to ensure alignment with the Government’s Resources & Waste Strategy, Environment Bill and associated waste legislation.
The role will require the flexibility and expertise in strategic waste to deliver contract management, data management and analysis, environmental strategy and policy development. The successful applicant would also deliver recycling and reuse initiatives and support operational delivery of household waste recycling centres, waste transfer stations and commercial waste services.
An essential part of your job will be to build strong relationships with senior officers, external partners, internal colleagues and residents so you must be an excellent and confident communicator, ensuring others trust your professional judgement and advice.
You will play an active role in a multi-skilled and motivated team in a supportive environment, and there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your skills, progress your career and contribute to the direction of the service as a whole.
The role offers a mixture of homeworking and utilising offices at our waste sites or Council buildings.
Whatever stage of your career we welcome your application.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. Expected to be in place 2024.
