Post No. STS0042.6 - Waste Education and Enforcement Officer

Newport is one of the best performing cities in the UK for recycling. During 23/24 Newport City Council is changing the waste collection service, moving from a collection of residual waste once every two weeks to once every three weeks. The change will help to help us reach 70% recycling. To provide additional support to the service change we are looking to recruit 4 x Waste Engagement and Enforcement officers on a full time, 12 month fixed term basis (37hrs per week) to join the waste and cleansing team.

The new Officer posts will be key to helping the City reach its recycling target. You will be responsible for engaging with residents to provide advice and support on correct segregation and presentation of waste and recycling, including conducting bin audits whenever needed. You will monitor collections, gather data and present reports on your activities. The role will also involve investigating and enforcing against waste offences.

We are looking for dynamic candidates with excellent communications skills and previous experience in dealing with the public in all circumstances with the ability to deliver information to targeted audiences. Ability to work as part of a team but also as a lone worker is needed. Full driving license is essential, and work will be carried out in all weather conditions with flexible shifts to allow for early starts or late finishing times whenever needed.

For an informal discussion in relation to the post, please contact Lucy Paterson (Service Manager Waste and Cleansing) on 07976 859493 or [email protected]
