Waste Collections Operations Manager

Waste Collections Operations Manager Swindon, Wiltshire, South West England, England

Swindon Borough Council
Full Time Swindon, Wiltshire, South West England, England 45000 - 50000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

You are an experienced and driven Waste Manager who can lead our award winning Waste Collections team in to the future. You will bring your experience of leading waste collections services either within the public or private sectors to this large team of staff who give their best every day for the residents of Swindon.

Your knowledge of waste operations, managing large teams, customer services, safe working practices, and legislation relating to waste collections makes you our ideal candidate. So too is your commitment to continuous professional development and being a flagship service leader.

Your next role

2023 will be the most important year in recent memory for waste services in Swindon. As part of a newly formed End to End Waste Service you will be absolutely crucial to the successful delivery of our ambitions. You will join the service just as our Recycling Collections Upgrade project moves in to full flight. A new service model will be implemented in Autumn 2023 and you will be vital to the transition from our current kerbside collections process to our new one.

With 40 brand new waste vehicles arriving in Summer/Autumn 2023 you will be the proud custodian of this major council investment and charged with ensuring it is used to maximum effect for our residents. You will be responsible for building this new team and our new service and making sure that it is a success for our residents. You will do this with the support of a brilliant group of staff reporting in to you and also an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and engaged peer group who will support you every step of the way.

You will be responsible for a team of over 120 staff based out of the council’s depot at Waterside Park, Swindon. You will use your experience and drive to ensure that our in-house waste collections service is run smoothly and efficiently with a focus on customer service, performance management and staff leadership.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

Potential applicants are sometimes put off if they don’t meet 100% of the requirements. We think individual experience, skills and passion make all the difference, so if you meet the majority of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.

Your next package

Please see our Rewards and Benefits offer for more details.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon by 2030 together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
