Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Warehouse Supervisor to join our Warehouse in South Shields on a permanent basis. As part of the management team, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of a fast-moving Warehouse environment, ensuring this is achieved in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst delivering world class service. You will manage and control shift activities and the day-to-day management of people within the warehouse function, to ensure company's targets and objectives are met to meet customer requirements, ensuring that staff comply with health, safety and standard operating procedures. Responsible for housekeeping standards and continuous improvement within the warehouse. A key aspect of this role is getting the best from the Warehouse Operatives on your shift, ensuring they are motivated, trained and carrying out their role to a high standard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe working environment, adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
- Plan, co-ordinate and monitor the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods, ensuring orders are processed efficiently and that delivery meets KPI’s/customers timescales/requirements.
- Work with the Warehouse Managers to determine staffing levels and control order picking, goods in, goods out operations assigning workloads.
- Maintain storage areas by organising floor space, adhering to storage design principles.
- Organise, facilitate, and manage stock takes at regular intervals.
- Operate visual delivery tracking systems to show commodity status.
- Identify errors and eliminate root cause using robust countermeasures and recommending improvements.
- Support in implementing warehouse and management systems and working practices.
- Monitor and review operational methods to facilitate improvements.
- Ensure security of Warehouse environment and maintain access control.
- Monitor and maintain stock accuracy in line with the warehouse management system and ensure all stock movements are recorded to ensure accuracy.
- Provide a thorough handover at the end of the shift.
- Supervise the warehouse team and manage day to day warehouse operations.
- Build team philosophy and cultivate a team atmosphere by working with the team to achieve the company's targets and objectives.
- Maintain training matrix and ensure employees are adequately trained and competent within their role to ensure operational flexibility.
- Coach the team daily in order that a common goal is focused upon and those business objectives are met consistently.
- Planning, managing, and adjusting staffing levels to meet daily operational requirements within the warehouse.
- Drive Company Absence Control Procedures to ensure maximum attendance levels
- Deal with short term/long term absence issues working with HR where appropriate.
- Deal with all people issues on shift involving Warehouse Manager/HR where appropriate.
- Undertake performance appraisals and proactively monitor and deal with performance issues.
- Takes part in the recruitment process for Warehouse Operatives joining the business.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience of operating in a supervisory capacity within a fast paced, highly pressurised warehouse and distribution environment.
- Experience of work scheduling/planning.
- Experience of working to deadlines and pre-set KPI’s
- Experience of carrying out performance reviews.
- Experience of carrying out disciplinary investigations and dealing with disciplinary issues
- FLT operator’s licence
- Experience of working in a unionised environment
- Ideally knowledge of clothing industry.
- Possess the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure / cost of poor quality
- Able to achieve results by setting high standards and committing to clear objectives
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and able to establish logical practical solutions
- Strong people and performance management skills
- Computer literate with good numeric skills
- Sound knowledge of IT software packages (Excel, Windows & In-house data bases)
