We have an exciting opportunity to join the Warehouse team in a permanent role as a Warehouse Operative, based at our Memory Lane Cakes site in Cardiff, which is part of the Finsbury Food Group.
Our Memory Lane Cakes site is part of our Cake Division within Finsbury Food Group. They make over 75% of the UK’s sharing cakes from retailer own brands cakes, tray bakes through to party cakes like Caterpillar cakes. They employ over 850 people on site and the sites runs 24/7, which encompasses a culture of Teamwork, friendly and respectful leadership and a focus on Continuous improvement at all levels.

This is what you’ll actually do!
As one of our Warehouse Operatives, you’ll be working as part of the wider Warehouse team on-site. You will conduct duties in line with the operation of the warehouse, providing a service to production that is in alignment with their production plans. Receiving goods in, accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring these are stored correctly and issued when and where needed. You will complete all loading of pallets onto the distribution network for finished goods, and manage customer order picks. You will complete cycle counts for warehouse stocks including stock rotation.
We are a fast paced, 24 hour, 7 days a week operation and you may find yourself working to tight deadlines or managing last minute changes to counts or orders. It is essential that all of our Warehouse Operatives have good attention to detail, are enthusiastic and have the drive to get the job done.
As part of your day-to-day you may be required to participate with the following:
- Ensure punctual unloading and departure of vehicles within the agreed deadlines.
- Check and complete all paperwork with accuracy and timing in mind for both internal and external use.
- Picking of orders for Operations or external customers.
- Meet all departmental KPIs.
- Responsible for ensuring you are compliant with Food Safety, Legality and Quality Systems.
- Adhere to and practice all aspects of departmental safety in line with HSAWA1974.
- Ensure clean as you go policy is always adhered to.
- Ensure compliance to GMP
- Monitor tempered butter/chiller stock and keep safety stock at correct level for production.
- Stock Control, ensure rotation of stock to limit low code/out of life liability.
- Continuous improvement.
- Identify and escalate department issues to your supervisor/manager.
- Step up as Supervisor as required in their absence.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by a supervisor/manager.
Ideally this is you!
- High levels of resilience, self-motivation and flexibility is required.
- Innovative.
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
- Experience with multilevel communication.
- Computer literate with Excel and WMS systems experience such as M3 or SAP.
- Knowledge of a warehouse function within a food industry. (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Quadex Technical system. (Desirable)
- Manage teams and performance. (Desirable)
- People management skills. (Desirable)
