We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented leader to join our team in Barnsley as a Warehouse Manager to lead a team of warehouse shift managers, section leaders and operatives. What’s the Opportunity?
As a Warehouse Manager at Gist, you will lead the warehouse functions of the distribution centre supporting in the overall development, performance and maintenance of the site operational activities ensuring that customer requirements are met efficiently and cost-effectively. You will liaise closely with the customer to ensure all productivity, accuracy and cost targets are met and exceeded. Proven leadership skills are essential in this role, as is the ability to engage and empower your team to execute the operational plan flawlessly.
Salary: Up to £55,000 p/a
Hours: 37.5 Per Week

What You’ll Be Doing
- Accountable & Inspirational of Gist safety initiatives at local site level
- Maintaining a safe and friendly working environment for all employees, agency and subcontractors.
- Manage safety and compliance breaches appropriately.
- Conducting disciplinary, appeal and grievance meetings
- Support operations Managers with counselling, coaching and the development of all colleagues.
- Ensuring effective communication within the warehouse teams through meetings, briefings, operations managers, union DLCs
- Driving positive change and engaging culture, bringing to life the Gist values
- Development of team, through IDPs and coaching
- To communicate across all levels of the business to ensure business critical messages are delivered accurately.
- Accountable for operational excellence i.e. cost and service delivery including peak planning/delivery
- Plan and co-ordinate detailed operational activities through operations Managers, to ensure the required level of service is provided to the customer
- Customer service management including escalation to store
- Tactical planning 2-6 weeks ahead and forecasting and planning up to 12 months in advance
- Maintain and enhance the quality systems and initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of the operation.
- Accountable for delivery of operational KPIs. Maintain and improve performance levels to maximise efficiency of operation in line with account KPI's.
- Execute growth plans and operational change initiatives.
- Proactively communicate any underlying issues from the week’s morning report submissions both inwardly to Gist and outwardly to retail.
- Ensure all requirements relating to safety, health, environment and quality are being fully implemented in the warehouse.
- Responsible for accurate forecasting, managing budgets to drive cost saving and efficiencies throughout the site
- Responsibly use resources and control expenses to comply with budgetary controls
- Management of long term absence
Who You’ll Be
- Thorough knowledge and hands on experience of a warehouse function within the FMCG Distribution Industry.
- A background operating at a Senior Manager level is a must.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent commercial acumen and decision- making skills
- Proven experience of managing change, and delivering continuous improvement
- Forecasting and budget management capability
- Ability to develop excellent stakeholder relationships at all levels
- Previous experience working with Trade Unions
