Job description
Warehouse Clerk
Salary: £25,828
Hours/Shift: 37.5 Hours - Rotating days
Please note: We have recently announced a number of changes to how we operate our logistics network which has an impact on the role you have applied for. Full details will be shared with you at the interview stage should you be successful in your application.
Do you have a good understanding of a warehouse and inventory function and how it feeds into a distribution network, plus great problem-solving skills, a common-sense approach and an impressive track record of delivery? Then make the move to Sainsbury’s and let your talent shine, playing a vital role in helping to keep our warehouse operations running smoothly, thus ensuring our shelves are packed full of everything from toilet rolls to prosecco to toothpaste - whenever they’re needed.
You don’t get from being a small shop in 1869 to one of the UK’s most loved retailers without a passion for innovation and a relentless pursuit for better. And that’s where you come in because, right now, we’re looking for a Warehouse Clerk to join our Operational Execution, Supply Chain & Logistics team at our distribution centre in Basildon.
Keeping our shelves full for our customers depends on us having a terrifically tight team, whether on the shop floor or at our distribution centre, where this particular role is based. Your challenge? To carry out a variety of day-to-day clerical tasks across our Inventory and Warehouse operations, in line with the relevant plans. Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for controlling stock effectively, including liaising with colleagues across the business to capture feedback on seasonal demand and prioritise customer need. Maintaining and collating accurate warehousing and inventory information, charging stock to stores and suppliers and carrying out inventory wholesale activity – these are just some aspects of this interesting, varied and vital role
So, what do you need to succeed? A good understanding of warehouse processes and warehouse flow, including restrictions like the location for products and weight restricted items, is essential. So is awareness of health and safety regulations and the relevant legislation. Proficient using a range of office IT, including Microsoft programmes and Warehouse Management Systems, you’re used to planning and prioritising your workload to meet deadlines too. What’s more, you have excellent attention to detail and accuracy, plus a proven ability to quickly resolve problems and escalate broader or more complex issues. And, if you’re great at analysing, presenting and sharing data and information and following clear procedures, guidelines and instructions, we should definitely talk.
As well as some great benefits, Sainsbury’s offer a genuine opportunity to progress. Indeed, you’ll gain exposure to different parts of the business which will help widen your skillsets and move into other roles in the future. Everyone gets their own personal development plan too, plus there’s a real commitment to wellbeing, D&I, values and work life balance. This particular role is offered on a permanent contract basis, working an average of 37.5 hours per week, working rotating days, with the flexibility to fit the needs of our operations where required.
Your Benefits
Pre-planned shifts
Season ticket loan after you’ve completed 12 weeks of service and passed your probation
Discount card after 4 weeks that gives you 10% off your Sainsbury’s, Argos and Habitat shopping
Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more
Cycle to work scheme available
At Sainsbury’s, we’re a proud equal opportunities employer that values diversity and inclusion at every level of our business. Because when people bring their true selves to work, powerful innovation takes shape. Just know that whoever you are, we are your Sainsbury’s.
