Overview:
Young people who experience their Mum going to prison may feel unsettled. Having someone there, helping them to maintain contact whilst Mum is away can make all the difference. That someone could be you.
Responsibilities:
Through our dedicated Volunteer Mentors, we work with individual families in North & South Wales to prepare carers and children for visiting HMP Styal or HMP Eastwood Park.
Our Mentors meet with a child, young person, or family up to twice a month to offer support, encouragement, and guidance. Mentors provide emotional support to the family and prepare children and carers for the prison visit. The support package is tailored to the individual, as each family will have specific needs.
The Mentor then offer transport and accompaniment to HMP Styal or HMP Eastwood Park, based on the needs of the family. Where required, volunteers offer support to the carer and children after the visit has taken place and help to arrange future visits.
This role requires a commitment of a minimum of 10 hours per month for at least 12 months.
We require you to be 18 years of age or older, have access to a vehicle and have a full, clean driving licence to be considered for this volunteering role.
Welsh speaking would be advantageous.
