Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is an independent charity that for more than 30 years has provided exceptional palliative care to local people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and support to their families and carers across East Dorset and Purbeck. We are embarking on a new strategy for the future which includes exciting plans, continuing to deliver our hospice services closer to patients’ homes in person and virtually. Due to internal career development, there is now a requirement for a highly motivated, personable Volunteer Manager to help us support our valuable group of volunteers.
Reporting to our People Manager, this role is the key central support for volunteer recruitment, communications and the wider volunteer journey at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care; recruiting, supporting and managing volunteers; providing them with everything they need to be involved effectively and achieving the maximum positive change for patients and families living with a life limiting illness.
As our Volunteer Manager, you will be responsible for volunteer recruitment, retention and training, ensuring a great match of skills and availability to the roles we require. In collaboration with line managers, you will manage our volunteer group; ensuring regular reviews take place, addressing performance issues and maintaining excellent communication inside and outside the volunteer group. You will promote the organisation to ensure that we have enough volunteer capacity to cover all areas of the organisation and build relationships with external bodies to procure the best possible volunteer capability for us. You will be responsible for all policies and processes in regard to our volunteers, including safeguarding and health & safety. You will maintain the volunteer database and keep in contact with previous and future volunteers around the area. You will support the volunteer group by building outstanding reward and recognition programmes, chairing regular funded meetings and creating a newsletter to ensure great communication inside and outside of the organisation.
You will be educated to A level or equivalent, preferably with knowledge of the UK charity sector. You will have a track record of managing volunteers successfully and experience of developing networks and relationships with a wide range of people. You will have significant experience of running engaging training and chairing successful group meetings; being involved in marketing and promotional activities; and delivering projects. Experience of working with patients and/or fundraising as well as event management skills would be an advantage.
Your ability to be solution focussed and self-motivating will be highly valued and your communication skills will be outstanding. Your good coaching skills will be coupled with excellent listening and your passion for the importance of volunteering will be evident. You will be extremely IT literate, able to use databases, spreadsheets and virtual platforms.
This role requires you to travel to our satellite provisions and shops across the county. We very much look forward to hearing from you and to the possibility of you joining our well respected, hard working and dedicated team.
