Job description
Newcastle Cathedral – Volunteer Coordinator
3 years part-time post, 22.5 hours per week
Mon – Fri with some weekend or evening duties.
Salary : £18,558 (FTE £30,931)
Now is an exciting and challenging time to be joining the team at Newcastle Cathedral. Newcastle Cathedral has undergone a profound transformation with the recent Common Ground in Sacred Space project (CGISS), with an extensive internal refurbishment, external landscaping and an innovative activity and events programme. The building provides a beautiful and welcoming space, with over 100,000 visitors attending engaging worship, exciting commercial events and a thoughtful activities and exhibitions programme. Volunteers sit at the very heart of our newly re-ordered Cathedral, with our long-term sustainability dependent on the many Welcomers and Duty Chaplains who support the Cathedral visitor operations. We are particularly proud of our Radical Welcome, ensuring that all visitors, whatever their needs, are treated with respect and given a warm welcome. Our volunteer Welcomers are also crucial in delivering our Making The Ask programme, playing a big part in the Cathedrals financial sustainability.
The role of Volunteer Co-ordinator is a crucial part of the Cathedral team. The post-holder will lead on the planning, organisation and delivery of volunteering, building on the fantastic work already put in place through the CGISS project and will deliver 3 priority areas :
- Maintain the existing volunteer-base
- Undertaking a programme of volunteer recruitment
- Delivering an inspiring training programme
We are looking for someone experienced in recruiting and working with volunteers, preferably in a not-for-profit setting. You will be committed to the Cathedral’s values and understand that volunteers are the bed-rock of our welcome and visitor operations. You will be a people-person and skilled in supporting volunteers, particularly those in visitor-facing roles. You will also be comfortable supporting volunteers in Making The Ask and working with colleagues across the organisation to deliver against budget in this area. This is an exciting, fast-paced role in a workplace which recognises personal responsibility, upholding of values and requiring excellent inter-personal communication skills.
Closing date: Friday 14th July, 12 noon
Interviews : Thursday 27th July
