JOB OVERVIEW

As part of a team the post holder will assist in the provision of an efficient and effective College Library Resource Centre service for students and staff. To provide a high-quality customer focused library and information service and to encourage use by all sections of the community. You will be able to interact and build positive relationships with young people.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, IT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook), with the ability to work accurately. A confident and professional approach when dealing with students, staff and outside organisations is required.

An important part of the role is to promote and maintain the areas expectations which will involve ensuring the noise level is appropriate for study, students interact professionally and they strive to achieve so the post holder will need to be able to interact and build positive relationships with young people quickly and effectively. You will issue and return resources including books, laptops & mobile phones, assist with basic IT support within the area and show students how to access relevant resources.

Although based at the Palmer's Campus, Grays Essex, occasional travel may be required to Seevic Campus, Benfleet Essex.

An understanding of Safeguarding including Prevent and Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation will also be required.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:

  • A high standard of communication and interpersonal skills
  • IT skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook)
  • Ideally knowledge of library systems (but this can be learnt)
  • A pro-active and confident approach managing the area and supporting students
  • The ability to support & build relationships with young people and develop a good rapport
  • The ability to work well in a team
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality

Good organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise workloads
Enthusiasm, creativity, self-motivation and a friendly approach

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
