Job description
We are seeking outstanding and inspiring candidates to teach on our courses in product and furniture design, landscape architecture, architecture, and interior architecture and design at undergraduate and postgraduate level for the forthcoming academic year. The positions available are mostly for visiting tutors for Design Studio.
We will look to you to foster a distinct approach to the discipline for the students to follow, providing an exciting learning experience with inspiring teaching and provide a creative direction to the studio. With this in mind, it will be important to nurture the group dynamic, foster consistent patterns of attendance and engagement from the start as well as inspiring and enthusing new students as they move through the design modules.
There will be a high emphasis on teaching drawing, model making, digital and physical craft as well as delivering skills in communication, presentation and professionalism. Delivering skills is essential alongside guiding the development of the students’ design projects. Successful candidates will also be invited to bring new techniques / skills to the team as part of the collaborative working environment we encourage.
Your role will involve you interacting with students in one-to-one/group tutorials, workshop or design seminars, formal reviews and all module assessment points. Under the guidance of academic staff, students are expected to develop thought-provoking, considerate, well-crafted and inspiring design outputs. The successful candidate shall work collaboratively with the Module Leader and Course Director to ensure students achieve successful final assignments.
You should have excellent design, communication and interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for teaching.
Candidates must hold a relevant qualification, at PG level for architecture and all PG courses. A rich professional experience with technical proficiency in design, potentially across a number of creative disciplines, is desirable. Experience of teaching design in Higher Education is desirable, or if the candidate works primarily in professional practice, evidence of coordinating group activities in a creative endeavour will also be considered. We will welcome applicants with experience in progressive initiatives to encourage design participation for diverse communities.
Posts are a part-time, fixed term contract. Sessions are generally timetabled once a week during term time and it is essential to be able to adhere to this commitment.
Selected candidates should note that payment will be made directly to them and cannot be made via a practice or company.
