We are looking for a specialist Vision Engineer with excellent skills and experience to work on live and recorded programmes on our OB unit and within our studios at Central Square, Cardiff.

The Vision team at BBC Wales work across a variety of television programmes in studios, outside broadcasts and on locations. Our experienced team of staff are highly valued and an integral part of the operation, the function of this role is to provide specialist vision expertise across studio and outside broadcasts.

You will contribute to the smooth running of a busy operational department as well as maintaining a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern. The work can sometimes be physically demanding and requires manual handling and rigging, work at heights, driving equipment vehicles, travel and staying away from home is sometimes necessary.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that high quality output is maintained, and providing advice on our vision systems and operational techniques along with working alongside the wider team to ensure that equipment and systems used to create, capture, manipulate and distribute BBC content meet targets for availability, performance and safety.

You will have previous technical knowledge and experience within the entertainment industry or similar.

Be experienced in vision control in TV studios and Outside Broadcasting and the wide range of systems involved including – cameras, lighting, mixing, graphics, routing, control, teleprompts, monitoring and power.

Have knowledge of both baseband and digital video and, ideally, HD-SDI along with the knowledge of camera, lighting, graphics, routing, control, mixing and power systems.

The knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety in the Workplace and Electricity At Work, and experience in studio and OB safe working practices is also essential for this role.

You will need to be flexible as the work closely follows production requirements and will include working weekends and some travel. You will be able to work with tight production deadlines and demonstrate high levels of motivation and be keen to learn and develop.
