About the role

We are seeking two forward thinking and passionate Education Advisors to work within our Achievement Through Schools and Achievement Through Access and Inclusion teams. The successful candidates will have a strong understanding of whole school and child level barriers which may be faced by children who have or have had a social worker and the impact of these on educational outcomes. They will contribute to the work of the advisory teams as outlined below.

There are two full-time roles available to start in September 2023 - one permanent position and one maternity cover. For the maternity cover, we would be open to considering a secondment.

What will you be doing?

Education Advisor (Achievement Through Schools)

The Education Advisor supporting our Achievement Through Schools work will have a strong understanding of the role of school improvement in maximising educational outcomes for vulnerable pupils. They will lead on allocated advisory work with maintained school, single and multi-academy setting and independent providers across the Early Years, primary, secondary and post-16 sectors.

  • They will support and challenge settings, schools and providers to understand and meet the statutory requirements for the education of children and young people who have or have had a social worker.
  • They will promote culture, policy and practice within settings, schools and providers which takes into account the specific vulnerabilities of children and young people who have or have had a social worker.
  • They will effectively track, analyse and use data to maximise attainment and progress for all children in care as if they were on a single school roll.
  • They will support the quality assurance of the PEP document, including the allocation and impact of the PP+ grant.

Education Advisor (Achievement Through Access and Inclusion)

The Education Advisor supporting our Achievement Through Access and Inclusion work will have a strong understanding of the barriers which may be faced by care-experienced children and the impact of these on educational outcomes. They will lead on allocated access and inclusion work; responding to referrals at an individual child level and driving preventative work in response to trends and patterns.

  • They will support a caseload of children and young people who may need additional support around attendance, inclusion or access to education.
  • They will provide support and challenge for the wider professional network and implement a solution focussed approach for individual children through a trauma-informed lens.
  • They will promote culture, policy and practice within settings, schools and providers which adheres to statutory admissions, suspension and attendance guidance and minimises risk for children in care.
  • They will work in partnership with key stakeholders, including social care and SEND, within and beyond the LA.

About you

You will have up to date knowledge of the education system, recent experience of working in a school or virtual school, and a strong understanding of the barriers faced by children in care and will offer support and challenge to ensure that educational outcomes are maximised.

You will be familiar with children in care, SEND, suspension, attendance, admissions and OFSTED statutory guidance.

You will be responsible for building relationships and providing support and challenge for key partners including senior leaders in schools to promote aspirational outcomes for children who have or have had a social worker.

You will be confident at communicating effectively, efficient, organised and be able to work using your own initiative within a wider team.

You must be able to drive and may be expected to travel outside of Cambridgeshire.
