ViiV Healthcare was created in 2009 with an ambition of launching a “best in class” integrase inhibitor, maximizing value of existing HIV products and allowing acute company focus on developing initiatives, compounds and access that would advance the care and treatment of HIV. Since that time, the successful launches of 4 Dolutegravir-based products have increased internal and external stakeholder demand for Medical Affairs support to ensure appropriate use of and access to our products as well as to serve as an educational resource.


In addition, there is consistent progression of research on ViiV Healthcare compounds to address data gaps that exist for Dolutegravir and our newer compounds, which includes advancing cabotegravir clinical development for both HIV treatment and prevention. The NA Medical Affairs team continues to play a significant role in ensuring capable sites are identified and selected, researchers are properly educated and informed, and studies progress in timely manner.


Additionally, HIV therapy is now being actively managed by many players and this has elevated the need to provide HIV clinical and research information to formulary decision makers and payers groups, increasing demand for Medical Affairs partnership.


The Global Head, Forecasting is a key role within ViiV, leading our strategic thinking on our long-term view of the potential of our marketed and pipeline products. They are a trusted go-to individual for a broad set of senior stakeholders across the company for input, advice and recommendations. This individual will work across a broad ad diverse set of stakeholders, up to the CEO of the company, to provide a compelling narrative and supporting rationale for the forecasts we are defining for our portfolio. They must demonstrate deep technical understanding of forecasting in the pharmaceutical industry, an understanding of the key market dynamics and be able to translate insights from the market into assumptions we incorporate into our modelling and ideally a deep understanding of how to model uptake in the infectious disease therapeutic area. This individual will lead a small team on-shore and leverage an off-shore team and external agencies to provide industry-leading expertise and support in this space to ViiV. They will also be adept at working cross-functionally across the organization to ensure we are getting the best inputs to our assumptions and resulting outputs.

This role will provide/gives YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…

Own the development of and gain organizational alignment on the ViiV long range sales forecast, with the support of two forecasting managers and an offshore team

  • Lead alignment of a broad set of stakeholders up to ViiV Leadership Team (VLT) members (including Finance, Head of Commercial Strategy, Marketing, Regional Teams, Market access and Business Development) to plan and execute long range forecasts

  • Drive robust discussion of assumptions underpinning forecasts, with supporting evidence/analysis and ensure assumptions and risks are clearly documented once agreed

  • Provide both disease area and portfolio context and act as trusted advisor to teams on how decisions will be perceived by forecast review committee stakeholders

  • Ensure consistency across all brands in model, forecasting (key) assumptions, and associated outputs; where inconsistency exists, proactively raise this and lead discussions to resolve

  • Ensure all forecasting milestones are met in line with the timetable agreed for the forecasting review committee


Act as an authoritative business partner to Global Commercial Leads (GCLs, VP level) and their teams to develop/update brand forecasts

  • Provide direction on and challenge forecast assumptions, based on an understanding of the external environment and product strategy as well as historical performance/Plan assumptions

  • Lead discussions on scenario modelling to support strategic decision making e.g. potential impact of significant investments / bold moves

  • Proactively seek to understand and maintain a good working knowledge of the Regions’ Plans and the US Long Range Forecast and underlying assumptions that can be communicated and discussed with GCLs as needed

Build a strategic forecasting centre of excellence, with services including:

  • Proactively monitoring the near, medium and long term environment and providing alerts, guidance and strategic recommendations to VLT and others on performance, business risks and opportunities (e.g., Covid, Product Launches & and other unique market events)

  • Leading the synthesis of data and insights from multiple sources (primary and secondary) and develop realistic, insightful, and actionable recommendations to inform forecast assumptions e.g. launch analogues, LoE curves, cannibalisation etc

  • When required, becoming involved in the design and development of market research forecast studies (i.e. demand research)

  • Link with wider GSK capability and experts as required

Additional Responsibilities

  • Take accountability for developing sales forecasts for pipeline development decisions and help support the valuation of potential in-licensing/business development opportunities in partnership with the commercial pipeline lead, R&D teams and Finance

  • Provide accurate and insightful analyses of ViiV performance, regularly contributing to quarterly and ad hoc investor updates, providing commercial ‘proof points’ and analyses to bring to life historical and potential future ViiV performance

  • Drive continuous improvement of forecasting process, models and new techniques in line with the business needs and continuously look for forecasting efficiencies and new ways of working to streamline existing processes and/or eliminate non-value-added activities

  • Define clear accountabilities and responsibilities with Finance, other members of the D&A team, global brand teams and regional teams, R&DLead and manage the off-shore resource on behalf of multiple ViiV teams, e.g. commercial, digital, medical, finance. Take overall accountability for ensuring high quality outputs, minimising staff turnover and continuing to evolving the team to support ViiV’s evolution

  • Knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical market, 8+ years

  • Experience of working across functional teams and leading teams, 8+ years

  • Experience of presenting to senior stakeholders

  • Experience of building cross-functional global relationships and delivering across a matrix organization

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience of working in the infectious disease space and/or HIV therapeutic area

  • Experience of working with off-shore teams and managing small on-shore teams
