Job description
Insider is hiring a UK-based fellow to join our News and Documentary video team as a video production fellow on one of its flagship shows, "Still Standing". This is a paid entry level fellowship with an annual salary of £24,000. The role is a 6-month contract, starting June 2023.
'Still Standing' features traditional businesses and crafts that have survived against the odds. Our stories take intense research and reporting to find and develop. An eye for strong visuals is a must. The role will involve helping our US and UK-based producers and editors to research stories and edit videos about such industries and crafts.
The work will be remote, with the option to work from our office in central London. The showrunner is in London, but most of the Still Standing team is based in the USA. That means time management, planning and committing to deadlines are essential to ensure a good workflow.
Fellows pitch new ideas, research stories, work closely with producers and edit highly visual and character-driven episodes that are about 10 minutes long.
The job involves working closely with producers, editors and managers to ensure we have solid, high-quality stories with accurate and compelling information.
The candidate will help create videos for a global audience across the web and social media platforms. The ideal candidate should be familiar with our work and eager to learn and lean into our style.
Candidates for the video production fellowship should have:
- Ability to quickly write scripts and stick to a publishing deadline while keeping a close eye on details
- Ability to fact-check information and view different sources for accuracy
- A passion for storytelling through video, specifically about different cultures worldwide
- Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects and other Adobe software is a plus
- Familiarity with digital and social media
- An eye for detail and for moments that elevate videos to the next level
- Ability to work collaboratively with a fast-paced team
- A collaborative spirit and a willingness to learn
- A commitment to fair and inclusive storytelling
Example episodes of Still Standing:
Morocco's Oldest Leather Tannery
Japan's Traditional Soy Sauce
India's Perfect Mirror
This paid fellowship requires that you work full-time for six months. The work will be remote. Most of the Still Standing team is based in the USA, so time management, planning and committing to deadlines are essential to ensure a good workflow.
