Job description
Video Production Assistant
Come tell the stories of our students and staff and help showcase their work. We are looking for a creative video content creator with experience working with professional equipment and software to set up, record and edit a wide range of video content for the Goldsmiths website, YouTube and social media channels.
What you will do
Our video team produces all of our communications, marketing and recruitment videos. They also provide a stills photography service.
We are running a big project to make short videos for our programme pages. Alongside this, we also make videos about our academics’ research work, exhibitions on campus, teaching and student life. Everything we produce should help with student recruitment.
Most of the role holder’s time is spent in pre-production, production and post-production of short videos, many of which appear on our YouTube channel, TikTok, social media and gold.ac.uk website. Translating these into social media stories is also important for reaching relevant audiences on platforms like Instagram. The role evolves as people change how they consume digital media.
Where the role sits
The role sits within our Communications, Marketing and Recruitment Directorate, which comprises experts from various backgrounds (corporate comms, newspapers, TV, social media, video production, marketing, web development and design).
Managed by our Multimedia Content Editor, the post-holder will get the opportunity to learn on the job and develop their pre-production, filming and post-production skills.
What the successful candidate needs
We are looking for someone who is already making their own films and has solid experience in filming, interviewing, lighting, sound and editing but have yet to have the opportunity to make videos as part of a professional role.
You must know how to use professional camera equipment and software such as the Adobe Creative Suite. Experience with photography and making graphics would be beneficial.
Part of our social media plan is to introduce more vox-pops. Therefore, you need the confidence to go up to people and ask them if they want to be filmed. We are particularly looking for a person who is good at interviewing and drawing out someone’s story.
A big part of this role is setting up shoots, working with stakeholders to agree messages, and signing off videos. This requires organisation and attention to detail. You need to be as equally motivated by this as the filmmaking.
Working location
We are operating a hybrid working model of at least two days in our office in New Cross, London. This is subject to change, but there are currently no plans to change it.
However, this role requires flexibility to attend shoots on any day. It will involve working some weekends and evenings on events such as graduation.
Applying and selection
Please ensure you complete the application's essential and desirable requirement sections by explaining how you meet the requirements in person specifications within the Job Description.
You must provide links to the following example videos in the additional question. If these are not provided, then your application will not be considered:
- A video of at least two minutes that is based around an interview you have conducted
- Three Instagram Reels or TikTok videos that show off your creativity for these formats
- A showreel
Interviews are planned for Tuesday 27 June.
