Introduction
This post is based in the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit, a team responsible for providing daily audio and video coverage of the UK Parliament and who manage the operation of A/V arrangements for remote participation in virtual and hybrid proceedings, working with the support of a sound and vision contractor and web service provider.
The Role
Working in a team, the post holder ensures that parliamentary events are scheduled and recorded on the Unit’s media management systems, that transmission paths are assigned for live broadcast, social media video streams are created on request and event details published on parliamentlive.tv.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Ensuring that audio and video is recorded of all public parliamentary debates and meetings. This involves scheduling and monitoring recordings in the Unit’s media asset management software, and assigning transmission paths to each scheduled video recording
- Monitoring live broadcast output, and recordings, and respond quickly to troubleshoot issues as they arise, and escalate where appropriate
- Helping ensure the daily smooth running of parliamentlive.tv by monitoring live web streams on the site, and raising issues with site performance with the online video service contractor
- Inputting and updateing viewer information on parliamentlive.tv for every meeting; for some events, providing viewers with a live log, informing them of who is speaking, and correcting these logs once the event has ended
- Becoming proficient in facilitating video-conferencing meetings, in order to be able to support the hybrid/virtual operational workflow, including the onboarding and support of remote participants
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience of working with audio and video recordings, including scheduling, monitoring, and archive retrieval
- Live web stream and/or broadcast monitoring, and ability to identify issues, troubleshoot, or escalate, without direct supervision
- Ability to react positively to quickly changing priorities in a live operational environment, across a range of different functions and as part of a coordinated team
- Confident IT skills, and proven ability to learn and develop skills in other technologies
- Proven ability to work inclusively and flexibly within a team to deliver a high-quality service
