Job description
- Drives the formulation and development of strategy, resource planning, initiative prioritization and strategic roadmap development to ensure effectiveness of the ongoing claim investment portfolio.
- Partners with other Claim organizations to ensure alignment on purpose, progress, and resource requirements needed to achieve business objectives. Determines escalation protocols to keep stakeholders apprised and aware of status and emerging needs.
- Partners with other Enterprise Strategic Planning & Execution organizations (SP&E) to build and enhance a culture of innovation and agility. Guides Claim and Enterprise initiatives that promote a creative approach, broadly-sourced thinking, and speed of execution.
- Accountable for building and managing a business portfolio management practice within the Claim organization. Engages proactively with senior leaders and subject-matter experts across product lines, Field, Shared Services and other disciplines to ensure resources are aligned to support Claim-wide initiatives.
- The practice will include evolving the best practices and standards for program/portfolio management. Best practices as follows:
- Engage within the Agile framework.
- Identify and capture resources necessary to achieve required solutions and outcomes.
- Establish consistent program success criteria and cost benefit analysis and communicate that broadly.
- Effective issue escalation and decision-making processes (constant feedback loop).
- Sound coordination across portfolios and expert dependency management techniques.
- Change management tools and resources appropriate for the scale on the initiative.
- Facilitates the process by which we govern the portfolio of new and existing Claim-wide strategic initiatives requiring a higher level of involvement (strategy, development, prioritization, planning, execution and success measures).
- Maintains a productive connection between Claim and Travelers other SP&E enterprise organizations, as needed for successful delivery.
- Leads a team consisting of highly skilled and experienced Strategy and Program Leaders, Process Designers, Process Engineers and may include certain Product Owners, in the design, development and delivery of cross-Claim initiatives. Provides leadership, including career development, work assignment, and value creation for Claim.
- Establishes department and individual objectives that align with Claim and Enterprise strategic objectives. Establish effective feedback and coaching practices that enhance performance of the individual, the group, and the organization.

- Experience working in partnership with Claim Product, Technology and Business Analytics organizations.
- Close interaction with Enterprise Digital Enablement development of end-to-end customer contact platform.
- Works in partnership with other Enterprise business units on common initiatives.
- Understands and manages the human dynamics that contribute to effective working relationships among diverse groups of people.
- 2 years agile experience required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 10 years of progressively increasing experience in Business/Claims/Program management/IT environment required
