The role


Medivet have an opportunity for a registered veterinary nurse to join the dedicated night team at our 24-hour hospital in Swanland. Working alongside Lead vet Paul who has over 20 years in practice and his experienced team of 9 day & night vets, including GPcert holders, in a modern, purpose-built 24-hour small animal hospital situated in the beautiful & affluent countryside of East Yorkshire.

As a night nurse you will be part of a dedicated night team alongside an experienced night vet, managing all out of hours care for the hospital and ensuring continuity of care by engaging in morning and evening handovers with the day team. This position would suit a nurse that has a keen interest in developing or adding to their existing knowledge of emergency and critical care.

Due to the nature of night work there is a level of autonomy that comes with the role so the ideal candidate will be trusted to work independently but must also be a team player with excellent client & customer care skills and a commitment to a high standard of in-patient care.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 7 on, 7 off (20:00-08:00 waking shift) but can also be offered part-time as 7 on, 14 off or 7 on, 21 off. We're open to being flexible where we can so get in touch and let us know what works for you.

Salary of £31,500 PA

Key accountabilities

  • Nursing/discharge of in-patients, prioritising patient welfare and care.
  • Training of junior nurses & supporting students in practice.
  • Running in house lab samples and organising repeat prescriptions.
  • Nurse consultations.

Medivet Swanland is situated in a rural, affluent part of East Yorkshire within beautiful countryside, with easy access to the North York Moors national park, East Yorkshire coastline & the cities of Kingston-Upon-Hull, Beverley, Lincoln, Leeds & York. The Swanland team consists of several vets lead by a clinical director alongside two head nurses, a team of RVN’s, student nurses, patient care assistants, client care assistants, kennel assistants and administrative staff. We also have a fully functioning night team staffed by experienced vets & RVNs to cover out of hours.

The hospital is well equipped both surgically and diagnostically with an in-house laboratory, digital x-ray, doppler ultrasound, a range of digital endoscopes, CT scanner, arthroscopy, orthopaedic theatre, separate wards (dog, cat, exotic & isolation) and a canine hydrotherapy pool alongside an underwater treadmill. The team has a strong focus on in-patient care and modern-day therapeutics, they engage in ward rounds and clinical case discussions as a group of vets to facilitate the continued progression and development of clinical standards.
