Night Registered Veterinary Nurse

Location: West Midlands Referrals

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 7 nights on 14 nights off

Salary: From £28,000 depending on experience, plus OOH supplement

West Midlands Referrals have an exciting position available for a night nurse to expand our current night service. This role would entail lone working in the Practice with phone support from our Veterinary Clinicians where needed. We are looking for someone that would be able to offer excellent care to our inpatients as well as keeping our Practice ticking over by setting up surgical departments for the following day. The successful applicant would need be comfortable working with anaesthesia as well as performing pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative patient care. The position is 7 nights on and 14 nights off. The hours would be 7pm – 8am Monday to Friday morning and 7pm – 8:30am Friday night to Saturday and Sunday morning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform admissions and discharges for patients under our care. Being mindful of GDPR and accuracy of capturing data.
  • Undertake all general nursing duties within the Practice and provide assistance to the full Clinical Team when required
  • Administer treatment (e.g. injections, medications, fluid therapy, dressing and euthanasia as directed) and dispense medication as instructed by the Veterinary Surgeon all in accordance with professional guidelines and Practice policies.
  • Ensure you keep accurate records with regards to medical records, anaesthetic sheets, hospitalisation forms
  • Provide exceptional pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative care to all patients in our Practice.
  • Keep highly accurate records and audit of controlled drugs as well as being a key holder to the controlled drugs cabinet.
  • Report on patient progress to Clients by telephone as needed.
  • Carry out full handover of cases to the day staff at the end of shift.
  • Ensure any incidents / near misses are reported on Vet Safe before the end of your shift.
